Saw that live. I wouldn't call it a trip. The gunner was running WAY out of bounds. Like on the other side of the white part. The "tripper" was standing where he was allowed to stand. All he did was bend his knee and brace himself. He knew the runner was going to trip over him, but that guy has no obligation all to move from where he is on his own side of the white sideline.

will discuss this for week andmake the non-trip trip look worse than Woody Hayes' clothslining the Clemson player during the Gator bowl game.

"I made a mistake that showed a total lapse in judgment. My conduct was inexcusable and unsportsmanlike and does not reflect what this organization stands for. I spoke to Coach Sparano and Nolan Carroll to apologize before they took off. I have also apologized to [Jets owner] Woody [Johnson], [Jets general manager] Mike [Tannebaum] and Rex [Ryan]. I accept responsibility for my actions as well as any punishment that follows."

The runner was so far out of bounds, it could be said that he was posing a risk to the players on the sideline. I hate it when gunners do that. The dude needs to get his *** back on the field.

Agree. I guess if the gunner ran to the concession stand to get a coke on his way to cover the kick, we could blame a fan for tripping him.

I can't believe you don't see the fault in this. You don't purposely trip someone if you are not even in the play.

What kind if logic is that? You wouldn't trip any other fan at the concession stand without going to jail, but throw some pads on him and it's all fair game? Interesting.

The Jets coach shouldn't have tripped him, but I don't blame him. I would have done it too.

If there is no trip, there is still an active player brushing against somebody on the sidelines.

If I'm the guy on the sidelines, I brace myself. The jets guy did that. He also did it in a way that would trip the other player if the other player gets too close. Its not like the jets guy blatantly stuck his foot out.

The jets guy today is clearly towing the company line. He is saying all the right things. And he's doing so most likely due to the Jets PR department. I bet the coach pats him on the back and says "nice job, now go take one for the team".

If i was going to brace myself my feet would be shoulder with apart and my hands would be up to block the player coming at me. If you watch the video, he clearly stuck out his leg and had his hands in his pockets. That's just ****** sportsmanship. I know the player should have stayed in bounds, but you can't just trip someone. That could have ended a guys career. How would you like it if i tripped you just because you ran past me in my space?

The Tech guy still got kicked out of the game, though, because it's a cheap shot on somebody who is running full speed.

I saw this live and on replay last night. To me it looks like the jets guy just bent his knee and braced himself on it. I didn't see the knee sticking out very far if it stuck out at all.

RE: hands in the pockets

Look at all the controversy coming form the subtlety of the "trip".

?Imagine if the Jets guy had been this blatent about trying to get out of the way and then finally brace himself.
