Taking my Dad to his First Game: Need Advice

My dad is nearly 70 years old, just now getting use to walking on his two new artificial knees. We both live far from Lexington and far from each other. Neither he or I have ever been to a UK game in person because of distance and, when we were both younger, money. I now have the means to treat my dad to a steak and a football game, so I targeted the Vandy game as a good time to go. The weather should be nice and the game will be one of the more competitive than most games on our schedule.

Unfortunately, I now nothing about how to actually go to a college football game (oh, the shame). Where is the best place to get tickets? To park? What are the pre-game experiences that my dad should see? Are there things that every one who goes regularly "knows" that a novice like myself doesn't?

Thanks ahead of time, everyone.

Unfortunately I think you picked a bad year to do it. We will be coming off a beating by Alabama and no telling the shape the team will be in mentally and physically. Especially if we lose tomorrow.

To answer your questions, I like to park at Rupp and take a shuttle to the stadium. If that option is still available. Much easier to get in and out of there and only a short walk to the stadium. You can get there a couple hours early and see the Cat Walk where the players walk down a road into the stadium with fans lining the street.

I don't tailgate so I can't say much about that and I don't know if they do anything else special this year before the games. I think they occasionally have concerts before some games. I would try and get tickets somewhere without a lot of steps to help with your dad's knees. Should be easy to find tickets online at Ticket Master or probably cheaper outside the stadium before the game.

No matter what at least you get to spend quality time with your dad no matter the results.

Shuttle is probably your best bet. There also houses on Nicholasville Rd just to the downtown side of the stadium that have parking that's $20 or $30. I would take the shuttle route though.

If your dad has a handicapped sticker , your best bet is to park in the handicapped lot and ride the shuttle up from there. Tickets shouldn't be hard to find and I'm sure the UK athletic dept has plenty...hope you have a good trip, I'll never forget my youngest son's first game 18 years ago when we upset Ala...we've been going together ever since.

They do have golf carts that can give you and your dad a curb service ride from where you park right to your gate.

After all the great things your father has done for you throughout the years, this is how you repay him? Making him suffer through a UK football game? Damn, man! Show a little compassion.
