This isn't pop warner. You are past teaching moments. You lost. Blowing up the victory formation is going to get someone hurt.

Maybe John Cohen should tell our players not to swing the bat if we're down in the 9th with 2 outs.

I don't understand why people have a problem with him doing it.

There is time left on the clock, you are within one score, and you have pads on. Go out and hit someone. Maybe next time they should just run the time off the game clock since the offense is just kneeling it. A few seconds left and the offense is kneeling it, why waste everyone's time? Just forget the play and run the time off and let everyone go home since the play is meaningless.

Then you have to do away with the Hail Mary for the offense too because its the same thing, a last second desperation attempt to win the game.

His Rutgers teams caused 4 fumbles in 5 years doing that. If the lead is 8 or less then there is nothing wrong with it all.

exactly. or hook and ladder plays or the kickoff returns with the laterals or any last second 1 in a millions shot play where players are flying around hitting each other.

what's really going to be funny is when it works sooner or later and immediately the entire NFL is going to start rushing the kneel formation at the end of the 1st half and at the end of 1 score games.

I love it! Especially since he is consistent. And I can't wait for Tampa Bay to be up by less than 7 in victory formation...to be continued

Exactly. And I guarantee you Greg Schiano will say there was nothing wrong with it, even if Tampa Bay fumbles and loses because of it.

Yep; play the whole damn game. Run a running play if you don't want to get blown up in victory formation.

What I really want to see is someone throw a quick pass or an end around in that formation with Schiano's team bull rushing the line and score to run it up.

I'm looking forward to Josh Freeman's ACL being ripped to shreds when they are in the victory formation.

Appears that it was twice in 11 years. On one of those offsides was called. So, only one was truly successful, but it did not lead to a win.

I just think it's kind of bush league what he is doing. For some reason, I didn't have a problem with it last week but this week - it rubbed me the wrong way. And I don't really like the Cowboys.

Talking head on a game today was where I got my numbers. Forgot which head it was. You mean those guys don't know everything?

Im a cowboys fan and I still don't have a problem with it. We knew it was coming. The only problem I have was the refs not calling offsides on every play.

i say let them play. you play to win the game. that' the problem i have with the nfl now. nothing but a league full of wussies. touch the qb, penalty, hit a "defenseless" guy, get a penalty. it's freakin football. i was always taught you play till the time runs off the clock. anything could happen there. a fumble and get the ball back. i agree if they are up way to many point for you to come back in a few seconds then don't, but if i'm only down one score i would go for trying to get a fumble. anything can happen in football. injuries are apart of the game. if you don't want to get hit then keep your pansy rear end off the field. might as well let them play two hand touch.

I think they should adopt a rule the Arena Football League had....

This isn't pop warner. You are past teaching moments. You lost. Blowing up the victory formation is going to get someone hurt.

If you're up by less than two scores with less than 2 minutes to play, you have to gain positive yardage or the clock stops.

I disagree, no reason to punish success. It's the defenses job to stop you during most of the game. If you execute and can take your knees, take em

If I am a NFL team playing Tampa Bay and they are trying to run out the clock, I am going to get a linebacker or safety to come from about 10 yards off the ball, blow up the center and be offsides. It will only cost five yards and it won't matter. What Tampa Bay does is bush league. Goodell needs to put a stop to this tactic.

It would be an interesting experiment, but would be too risky in my opinion.

If you drop the QB back, he's more in play for the defenders coming off the outside of the formation, so you will need 2 RBs to move out to pick those guys up. Plus, you always want a "safety" RB behind the QB should the play fail and he has to make a tackle. So simple math tells us that with a QB receiving a snap plus a RB playing "safety", you going to leave 2 defenders unblocked. Although, technically that is also true for the "under center" victory formation, the mere fact that you have more players on offense concentrated in a smaller area makes it difficult for those unblocked players to get across the line of scrimmage to disrupt the play. Moving the QB several yards back now creates space for unblocked defenders to potentially make bad things happen.

However, it may be worth experimenting with if teams are worried about their QB getting blown up. Shotgun formation is obviously commonplace, so the inherent risk in a bad snap is much lower now. If the ball is dropped, the QB still has the benefit of the time it takes for defenders to move 5 yards to fall on the ball. If the ball is bobbled from under center, there is a dog pile and a free-for-all. So shotgun definitely has that advantage. I would love to see some teams try this out, but I definitely wouldn't want to be the first coach to have it backfire one me when someone comes unblocked off the edge and clobbers the unprotected QB...

gotta remember in the victory formation, the line usually have a TEs on either end, so that makes the distance the defenders have to cover that muuch farther. furthermore, if they hit the QB while he's kneeling on the ground, it'd be a penalty. i can't reasonably see a defender coming around a TE and a RB in the backfield and making it to a QB in the shotgun before he kneels.

Either that or your O line could... actually block

I think that Mike Golic, who happens to be a former NFL lineman, said it best. When you get down into your stance, it doesn't take a lot of effort to look into a defender's eyes and know whether he's coming or not. Treat it like a goal line play and block. Simple as that

I don't have a problem with it. But if I was coaching the victory formation team vs Tampa, I would get a linebacker..Ray Lewis type...and split him out wide at wide receiver. Then bring him in motion full speed and when he gets about three yards from the tight end snap the ball and have him crack back and decapitate the first thing he sees. I think this could lead to some fun moments during an otherwise dull finish.

If Tom Coughlin or any other coach was worried about their QB they could just have the QB in the Shotgun formation with personal protectors and a deep safety. Therefore the QB's legs would be perfectly safe. Damn its football, they have to try. You are not supposed to give up no matter the circumstance.
