Before I watch the Massacre in the Snow, I went back last night and watched how TSUN defended the Man-Gazelle.
1. TSUN kept its offense on the field as much as TAMU.
2. TSUN constantly changed its formation: started with the 3-down and increased to 4-down, but never got comfortable with one or the others. Sometimes their tackles would start in a pass rush position.
3. TSUN BLITZED. They blitzed over 75% of the time for the first three quarters. They played the 4th conservative and it burned them.
4. TSUN played tight coverage. Passes over 15 yards resulted in two interceptions but one touchdown. Their secondary never allowed their receivers to turn upfield. They gave up the short timing routes and made quick ball-hawking tackles.
5. TSUN went all speed. Manziel was never comfortable. He was sloppy with the ball. They knew he could only run right. They ran a lot of stunts and spies to that side.
Clearly our coaches did not watch the film on the TSUN game. They saw LSU change to 3 down linemen at the half and thought that was the magic formula. Speed and pressure forced six turnovers. TAMU got their stats but the game could have easily been a laugher for TSUN.
