Tanner Lee played great tonight

One good thing about Tanner is that he no longer is the NCAA interception leader. NMSU qb has 11 interceptions to 10 by Lee.

Try 10 points by the offense. Try a quarterback that was 50% with 1 TD and 1 INT. Ozigbo averaging almost 5 ypc and the offensive line providing good protection was about the only decent part of our offense last night.
...and without Ozigbo's lucky step out of bounds it would have been 7 points.

Yeah that's right but I don't care what your offense does, you aren't going to win giving up 250 yards on 25 carries. No way.
I agree completely with this, it's just that there's a big difference between not being the reason your team lost, and playing "great" as stated in the original post. I thought Lee had a reasonably solid game, just didn't think it was anything to get overly excited about.

Lee is an inaccurate QB that takes too many chances by throwing into double coverage and tight windows. Nothing more. And this coaching staff will sink right along with him.

Correction. Lee is an accurate QB who has to take chances in tight windows because his WRs often don't get separation. He did a good job Saturday of throwing it away when there wasn't anything there and unfortunately that was often.

No, he is an inaccurate QB...period. He misses receivers that ARE open, and does it on a regular basis. He can't make the throws in those tight window scenarios you mention, because he is inaccurate.

I respectfully disagree.

First of all, our receivers were mugged much of the night, and didn’t get separation throughout the night. The one time they did, it seems, was the long TD pass which Lee threw perfectly.

He is improving each game in his decision-making, and I like more and more what I am seeing in his passing...

He still needs to improve, but he is showing improvement these last 2 games, in my opinion.

Sorry. I haven't seen that. The kid has a great arm and normally puts the ball on the money. He's the most accurate passer we've had on campus since Zac Taylor and has a much stronger arm.

Then you are not paying attention...at all. There's a reason why he is hovering around the low 50s in percentage. And it's not all because he is being constantly pressured. He is missing receivers on a regular basis. Yes, he has a very strong, but inaccurate arm. And he makes poor choices by throwing into double coverage too frequently.

Stanley dropped 3 passes put right on the money against Illinois. He dropped one against Wisconsin. We've had lots of throw aways because of pressure and coverage. I'm not seeing guys getting open in part because we've had to keep people in to help our linemen. Heck DPE dropped a ball which would have been a TD against Wisconsin. Yeah it would have been a good catch in traffic but the ball was on the money and the only place it could be to be caught. Lee wasn't the problem against Wisconsin. NIU and Oregon yes. Wisconsin, no. He's getting better IMO. Wasn't Lee sacked 7 times and knocked down 6 against Oregon? Good heavens what do you expect?

He's made better choices, but hitting a guy in the helmet at close range on that pass to Oz was too high and not out in front of him. Even if Oz didn't run a good route Lee still threw it too high. You can't continue to make poor choices like that time after time. It has cost us all year.

That pass to Oz was very catchable IF he just looks for it. If he bellys ONE foot on his route and looks a half second earlier that at the very least was a 5-10 yard gain. It's one of the reasons he was 3rd team.

Complete and utter BS! That WAS NOT even remotely a good pass. That INT was on Tanner Lee...period! You'll never have a QB coach tell you to aim for his head at close range. He didn't lead him in any way, so he could catch the ball with his hands in front of his body. It was a very poor pass.

BTW, based on what I've seen, Oz is the best RB we have, based solely on how aggressively he runs. He hits the hole with intent, and hits it fast. All the others are indecisive hitting the hole.

I felt like that was a pass that was thrown to a spot, not an inaccurate pass. It was a timing pass.

Because Zig didn’t look back in time Lee looked terrible. I do think Lee could have waited a little longer to throw the pass, but again, it was one of those ‘throw to a spot’ passes that your receiver is supposed to be at that spot at just the right time.

I think both could have done better, but I would be willing to bet that in the NFL the blame would have been leveled on Zig for not being ready.

To your second point, I love Zig running the ball. Spot on, but I do think Bryant is great for us as well.

Through the first games, Lee was letting his WR down. Now it's the other way around. He has settled down and played well, and they're either not getting open, dropping passes, or both. There were plenty of times Saturday you could see him looking for somebody open and nobody was.

Gotta make a play on the ball in big games. Just a ton of unforced errors from a group that you'd think gets coached hard enough not to do that.

Case in point, Spielman runs outside his blocker on that middle screen. If he sets up his block, it's a crucial first down. Instead he runs the defender right back into the play and gets dropped short of the sticks.

I think a swing pass is about "feel" more than anything. But you don't throw it right at the guys body. The player needs to be led, so he can catch the ball out in front of his body so he has momentum moving toward the LOS. I think it was very poorly thrown. It was too high and not thrown in front of Oz.

With the position of the linebacker and DB, if he throws it with more touch and in front of Devine, it's still possibly a pick 6. That is why I've posted that Divine needed to belly that thing a little bit. Lee had to zip it to get it there before the defense could close. Bottomline is that it was a catchable ball and instead it got batted in the air.

Back shoulder throws are nice down the sideline but not on the swing pass. It's an almost impossible completion, and if it is completed there won't be any YAC.

Lee had almost zero pressure Saturday night. The oline did a fine job in pass protection. There is no way someone who is being really accurate with the ball can only complete 50% of his passes when he's not being pressured. Shoot in TMart's junior season who has bested Lee's junior season by a mile in every single passing category. In terms of completion percentage TMart was at 62% while Lee is at 54%. Plus, TMart threw the ball down the field a lot more than Lee does.

That ball to DPE was thrown into double coverage. It should have been intercepted but their db's took a bad angle.

He's very inconsistent. He has great accuracy at times, terrible accuracy at others so you both were correct.

I tend to agree, the ball was probably in the right spot, but with Tanner Lee's history the pick 6 is going to be blamed on him

********! If the receivers would of caught the two touchdowns the game would've been different!
We need about 5 more receivers. I can’t believe how thin we are at that position. Especially for a team that wants to throw it as much as they do.
