One the best high school football rivalries in NC takes place this Friday as Tarboro makes the short trip to pinetops to take on southwest Edgecombe. Thoughts on this one?

Anytime we go on the road especially to swe you never count them out. I remember 2011 everybody thought that game was going to be a blowout and it wound up being one of the best games in the history of this rivalry.Swe is down, I still say we are down compared to the last few years(although I still think we are pretty good) on the road, so I’m not expecting the blow out that some others are, I’m thinking something like maybe we win by two scores. I’ll gladly take being wrong, and take a larger victory though![]()
That was a good game. We were way better than them that year, but they gave us all we wanted on that night.Anytime we go on the road especially to swe you never count them out. Yep that proves enough right there that you through records out the window when it comes to this game. Then again swe had Raymond Cobb then lolThat was a good game. We were way better than them that year, but they gave us all we wanted on that night.
Wouldn't be surprised to see a different head coach if their season continues at the rate it's going. Granted I've said it before and I'll say it again, I NEVER take swe for granted. It's our rival and you always throw records out the window in this game. Do I believe Tarboro will win of course but doing it on the road against your rival is always a challenge.Southwest looks down this year with ugly losses to N. Nash and Hunt. Probably be a huge Tarboro win.
Judging by what I'm hearing from Southwest fans you're probably rightTarboro 40+
I hope our coaches drill that to our players keep their cool at all costs. Plus usually when Tarboro goes to swe they almost always get a lot of flags lol. I believe Tarboro wins by a lot I just never underestimate them.I’m actually worried. Not for the outcome b/c I believe Tarboro wins by 20+ but worried about the players. From what I’ve been told SWE players loves to talk & do a lot of BS after the play. They’ve had several personal fouls this year. Even the coach has had about 2. Hopefully our guys can keep their cool.
IMO if Tarboro is gonna lose another game this season I would be this One. Of course It believe they'll win lol but never underestimate a rivalI’m saying 28-14 ths
I agree you with you on that. Emotions always run high in this game especially at their place. I think Tarboro is 3 scores better than them if they play like they have the last two weeks. When I look at the game from earlier this spring our offense didn't really get going until the second half. But you also have to consider that covid protocols were extremely strict during that time because we didn't have a scrimmage and we didn't have a jamboree. And they seem to be down more so defensively than last season. They gave up 21 to north Edgecombe and 53 to Northern Nash and 42 to hunt.I think we are more than two scores better than them, but I think emotions may be high with it being a rivalry game. We beat them 35-0 last year, and I feel last year we were two to three scores better than this team. Big question would be, how down are they from last year?
Bc we enjoy talking about Tarboro football ???Why do even have threads on the 1A east
This actually isn't a 1a east game. It's a non conference game. Usually we don't post Tarboro conference games on here because we know the majority of the time they're going to end in a running clock lol. We usually post ones up here that have some intrigue to them and ones that you could see Tarboro losing. And plus this is one of the best high school football rivalries in the state I'm not going to say it's the best because in my opinion that's Richmond versus Scotland. Why do even have threads on the 1A east
Why did y’all only beat Northside Pinetown by 1 TDWhy do even have threads on the 1A east

It tells me Murphy had 2 returning starters get in legal trouble before the season and couldn't play (one of the two being arguably their best player: a all state d-lineman and for my money he would've been the best d-lineman in 1A football this spring), had a couple more kids that would've been starters quit right before the season started, got ravaged with injuries to half a dozen starters (a couple season ending) during the season. Oh and for good measure they lost their starting QB early in the 3rd quarter of the title game to a injury he's still not fully recovered from. And they still managed to win it all in spite of it. Only other team that might have been able to overcome that level of attrition this spring and win a title was Tarboro.Everybody loves to talk about how weak the 1A East is but yet last year the best SMC team only beat a 1A East team by 7 points….what does that say about 1A west?
Wasn't Raymond Cobb the coach at SWE after he left NE? I don't live in that part of the state but I recall SWE is usually competitive and makes the playoffs. What happened to Coach Cobb?Wouldn't be surprised to see a different head coach if their season continues at the rate it's going. He coached at Southwest until 2012 and then he retired after that. He actually really helped out SouthWest Edgecombe because they were going through a very rough period but when he became the head coach at SouthWest Edgecombe they became a very good program and honestly you could thank him for getting them to the level that they are currently. His son took over in 2013 he suddenly retired between the 2019 and the reschedule 2020 season and truthfully I don't think Southwest has fully recovered from him retiring.Wasn't Raymond Cobb the coach at SWE after he left NE? 2015 came so close to going to states. I doubt they would have beat Shelby that year though. 2018 was another good team that IMO should have went to states. 2019 got hit by injuries and it wound up getting the best of them against northeastern. 2009 definitely should have went though still shocks me how they didn't make itI love to joke about Southwest not ever making it to the state championship game - but when you really look at the talent they’ve had over the years it really is amazing they’ve never made it past the 4th round.

If I remember correctly SWE had Reidsville beat in that game and then they like muffed a FG snap or something like that in the end. Maybe SWE98 remembers better. They had to go through Reidsville. Reidsville was the favorite and also undefeated.

I’d like for a Southwest fan to confirm because the final score was 22-20 and I remember my friend calling me from that game and telling me the holder muffed the snap and then almost ran it in for a TD as time expired so it couldn’t of been that long of a field goal.I don't think so, but they had a chance at it. The field goal was pretty long and if I remember they hadn't kicked one all year. I think it was about a 40 yarder. It was a nip and tuck game, I'm not sure if Reidsville ever trailed though. Was tied at 14.
Yeah I remember they had a lot of hype coming into 10 and then Ellerbe got hurt in the Jamboree and they never really got in a rhythm the rest of the year. The year they should’ve made it was 10. They brought back the QB and full back from the year before. Beat northeastern pretty good In the regular season, then lost to beddingfield in a head scratcher in the first round. Northeastern ended up making the title game that year.
I just watched that earlier. I was hoping they would show the field goal attempt.
I’m trying to find a article, but here’s video of the game
No reason why they didn’t at least play for oneYeah I remember they had a lot of hype coming into 10 and then Ellerbe got hurt in the Jamboree and they never really got in a rhythm the rest of the year.
Yeah with the talent that they've had the last 12 years it is very surprising they haven't at least been to oneNo reason why they didn’t at least play for one
