Post 1 (Creighton Prep). Bring it home boys! Baseball has, and always will be where there is plenty of Prep talent in this state.

I have nothing against Prep. But, I am NOT a fan of them bringing back Legion babies the last several years and taking spots from kids that played on the spring team, which forces them to play for another school team or the Millard Sox programs. Doesn't sound right. Don't see other bigger Class A schools (Millard W, S, N, Westside, etc..) doing this. And don't tell me "all the other states do it" why shouldn't Nebraska teams do so. Most states don't embrace legion baseball like Nebraska does. Very few Legion teams in the more highly populated states (best kids are playing on travel teams) so talent pool is greatly diminished.

Can you elaborate on this? I'm not sure if I'm following. Is Prep taking advantage on some sort of loop hole? What are legion babies?

Meh. I am all for anyone playing that wants to, and is eligible. They could always get beat out. I would have loved another year of legion ball back home after my Freshman year (but my arm was injured anyway).

This thread was just in support of a Nebraska Legion team making a run. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't care who it is, or who plays for them.

Feel the same way, although it doesn't keep me up at night or anything like that, it just feels wrong.

Prep has been cheating for decades. Even though it's a violation of NSAA rules, they have recruited athletes from local public schools, offering them "academic" scholarships.

See Kerry Trotter

How did Akoy Arop quailfy to enroll at Prep?

I could go on, but it won't change anything.

Prep is to the NSAA what texASS is to the BigXII.

My gawd, someone dumb enough to think Omaha public schools dont recruit. Pure ignorance and delusion.
Trotter? From 1980s? THATS what youve got?
Arop i dont understand.
Face it, youre jealous....of a bunch of high schoolers. Probably got your *** kicked and still butthurt.
Prep is an outstanding institution with outstanding history of players, coaches, and teachers. Put a lot of good young men into the world.
I hope they keep recruiting and enable kids who otherwise couldnt get one a religious and steller education while preparing them for college.

So anyway. The team is up 2-1 and the game is suspended until tomorrow due to rain.

Wrongo!!

My Catholic high school beat Prep in basketball in both my junior and senior years. We routinely beat them in baseball.

All of the Prep alums I've talked to in the past 10 years have admitted to bending the rules.

Remember the story from a few years ago where the small town high schools in Nebraska complained because the Catholic schools were taking the cream of the local crop? They wanted the NSAA to require the Catholic schools to play up a class.

They learned the trick from Prep.

FYI, OPS didn't even play football in middle school until they hired Bob Danenhauer as the district's athletic director.

He forgot to scream "run the ball" at the end of that stellar rant of butthurt from his pathetic past.

Prep, you must have me confused with someone else.

The only thing I scream is "Win!!"

I'm one of those guys who wanted Bo gone and I'm still not convinced that "Smiley" can get it done. I hope he does and I'm pulling for him.

BTW, with an August birthday, I played legion ball after my freshman year in college.

The first program in the world to provide a national baseball tournament for teenagers, American Legion Baseball was born.

In 1926, posts in 15 states began to make Griffith’s vision a reality. They organized and sponsored teams, drafted local schedules and conducted championship tourneys. Postseason tournaments at the state, sectional and regional levels culminated with a national championship. Only a few changes have been made to the format over the years. The tournament still has a similar setup: 64 teams play at eight regional sites, with eight teams going on to the World Series.

They don't break rules. They are a private school that needs to recruit kids, that is why they go to all the middle schools each October and present to them.

Hmmm...Prep used to be a Catholic school, just like all the other Catholic schools in town.

The non-Catholic athletes receiving "academic" scholarships are taking a scholarship away from a deserving Catholic young man, simply because they are a premier athlete.

I know many Prep alumnae that participated in their "work-study" program to help with their tuition. Do you think these athletes are doing "work-study?"

They arent taking a scholarship away.
And how do you know they arent earning it?
Prove it.
