Temper my enthusiasm, perhaps?

Serious question, because I really feel like Cohen and his gang will be pretty stout this season.

BUT..After the gigantic dump the football team took on the second half of the season, and what appears to be an even bigger dump being taken on basketball - Is there any reason why I shouldn't be optimistic about baseball this year?

You should be very excited about baseball this year -- and looking into getting season tickets like the rest of us who are hoping to have a new Dudy Noble under construction before the ribbon is officially cut on the football stadium.

Just don't be one of the morons that blows a gasket on here when we drop an early-season game or series. There are a handful of them every year that try to apply football logic to baseball -- and look like total morons in the process!

Otherwise, I think we are a legitimate borderline top 10 team... and MSU baseball feels BACK for the first legitimate time since McMahon ditched us after the super-regional...

That's the way I feel too....and it scares me. Just need something that may soften that punch in the gut that seems to haunt MSU athletics.

True. But this is MSU BASEBALL -- where all our other limitations and restrictions don't apply. This is the one we can be consistently GREAT in, and I finally feel like we're very, very close to getting our swagger back. No better place to watch college baseball than DNF when we're good...

I strongly recommend a quiet confidence approach ...

taking into consideration that we are talking about the intense bastard and his single handed ability to turn fragile athletes into quivering piles of estrogen and their helicopter parent mr. Moms into screaming vaginas.

I am very heavily emotionally invested in our baseball program, because it is the single thread of connection to athletic relevance for this forlorn institution of higher learning. In no other sport that matters do we have the ability to consistently compete on the national stage. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. I trust our greenhorn athletic admin has figured this out and resources accordingly.

Cohen has been competitive with less talent over the past few years.....

Now, imagine what he can do with equal talent to the rest of the elite SEC. And we're only getting better recruits each year. With better players, he's going to start taking less chances, resulting is less dumb-**** looking **** like getting picked off 2nd base and all.

We have every reason to be excited over baseball. Just don't get too stupid with expectations. I think we have the potential to host a regional, but my baseline expectations are always to just make the postseason. Also, I never judge the overall program on how we do in the postseason. It's all about the regular season. In the end, your odds of doing well in the postseason are going to increase if you're a higher seed, host regionals and supers, etc. Unless your Ole Miss I guess.

College baseball is my soccer. You can hate on it all you want and say it doesn't matter, but all you'll get from me is a verbal middle finger and a bunch of flailing around gyrations and gruff akin to the way soccer **** defend their "sport." Hopefully college baseball will never descend to the depths of meaningless that is the NBA leaving me with no reason to defend it.

People are catching on. Will never eclipse football or even basketball because the best talent is going to go straight to the pros, and to many baseball is a boring sport in general. But the postseason regionals are a great product and is gaining popularity. I think they are too long personally, but oh well.

Since the rabbi brought it up, this why I think baseball gets passed by soccer in my lifetime. A soccer match is 2 hours tops. The action almost never stops. There are a lot of problems with soccer, A LOT! However, as a television product it blows baseball out of the water.

Also, don't underestimate the importance of video games. FIFA is closing the gap on Madden in the US. Baseball video games make almost zero money. I think EA quit making theirs...that's huge for coming generations of fans.
