Temple has a very, very old team

seems like their whole starting team is seniors and juniors. While Rhule seems like a good coach, how the did last year and next year will tell me a lot about how good he really is.

Matt Rhule seems like a decent coach but like the OP said, he has alot of experienced depth to work with. This season is not and will not be the norm for Temple...he'd be crazy not to leave while he's hot.

I wouldn't blame him for leaving one bit or any other coach similar. We see it in basketball all the time on one magical tourney run. But if I'm the AD I wouldn't hire coaches like that without seeing some consistency of results.

I don't think it's rocket science to say that but for whatever reason ADs don't always follow this rule. It's an investment of millions of dollars and time too, the more you see the better judgment you can make right? It's just common sense.

His numbers as coordinator weren't good. I posted them earlier a couple weeks back. That's all the more reason I need to see more as a HC.

Yeah someone said to wait a year to see how good Rhule really is. I agree.
That's the dilemma, if he is that good and you wait another year you may not get him. If you go after him and he isn't that great, then your stuck with him.

Alot of factors involved...game day coaching, recruiting, player developement, managing the program, etc...

Here are his numbers as offensive coordinator at Temple.
total offense (107,92,89) scoring offense (82,39,79)

As HC at Temple (the last number is up to last week)

total offense (76,120,109) scoring offense (90, 99,51)

defense this is where he's done well but it's not his side of the ball
total defense (111,25, 14) scoring defense (83, 6, 8)

I had posted in another thread how Rhule was winning with upperclassmen and that I really needed to see another year out of him. Right now he's really winning at Temple with a small handful of players. The fact that P.J. Walker is one of them is seriously irritating to me.

He'll leave after this year and let someone else rebuild from scratch.

I don't care...I like watching a team that is fundamentally sound

And I don't say that from the position of wanting him as our next coach (I havent studied that at all), I say that in admiration and out of jealousy. In almost 30 years of watching RU, we've never been fundamentally sound.

Crazy.

I'm curious. Are these Golden recruits? Who has developed them? What has ruhle's recruiting looked like?

Of course, you'd like to see him a little longer to confirm what's been happening at Temple is HIM. But there's a feeding frenzy mentality, and some AD is going to bet him on the come. That's where a talented, diligent, insightful AD is worth their salary. Do they see what he really is?

You know seeing those defensive stats the last couple years, I'd possibly be interested in his Phil Snow as a candidate for DC for whomever our HC is, whether Flood or someone else. I'd like to know what else he's done in his career though before going too far on that. But the last 2 years stats are pretty good.

That's probably the post I was thinking of.

Herman is doing the exact thing with Houston with all senior and junior starters. Houston played teams with an average 2.5 wins season.
