If he had gotten the talk, he would have been gone in December.
If I recall many of the assistant coaches contracts end in February. To be in line with the second signing period. But I believe Aurich was renewed through 2025.

Guy keeps falling upward. Relieved of duties as OL coach (awful unit now a success) next assignment RB coach (unit did not reach potential now a success) next assignment TE coach (awful unit). Maybe it’s a sign there will be a turnaround in the TE room now that he is no longer responsible.
That’s called being of value during time of change. Lots of recruit quotes over the years mentioning Aurich and them being impressed with him.

Good for him. He actually lives a few doors down from my brother’s house. Says he and his wife are great people.

Sure he’s a nice guy. My response was somewhat tongue in cheek.
Professionally I have found myself brought into situations as you say “valued during time of change.” But the improvements were realized while I was still on the job not by the person who replaced me. The units he’s coached have been less than successful.

I wish him well.

Every Rutgers guy who gets a HC ( even at an Ivy League program) job is a plus to the school. I’m sure Schiano will have a TE coach soon who will be a good fit. Anyone on staff?

While I think the term "coaching tree" has more to do with one's longevity as HC than one's competence, Greg is certainly building quite his own "tree". Even more impressive is how many of his former staff has moved on to HC gigs which at least shows he has an eye for talent.

Rutgers has a tight ends coach?

Haha. We did.
Sadly I wouldn't be shocked if we use this spot to replace the LB coach now.

Just let the OL/WR coaches double up.
We don't need any actual offensive coaches.....

You can't expect assistant coaches to actually be coaches.

Seems they get hired purely to bring in recruits who then get coached by nobody.

It‘s not their performance, it‘s how well you network. I guess it’s always been the game.

Yea I agree. It is very difficult to be banished from the coaching profession. If you can make it more than 3-5 years you have a job for life.

Did Aurich get the talk?
I don't think you would need to be given a 'talk' in order to want to jump ship to take the Harvard job. People would kill for that job. Less pressure to win at all cost and much better job security and the program literally recruits itself. Last coach was there 30 years. Barring being incompetent, you could actually own a house long term and raise a family and stay in one spot which few head coaches can do. And no need to fly a helicopter all over the state 24 hours a day or agonize over NIL funds....kids just show up on your doorstep begging to be let in.

Steve Shimko is a name that will be considered
He was TE coach, then QB coach at BC before being made their OC/QB coach.
Could add QB coach title to TE Coach
has a nice resume
Coaching Career
2023: Boston College (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks)
2022: Boston College (Quarterbacks)
2020-21: Boston College (Tight Ends)

2016-17: Garden City Community College (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks)

@Knight Shift Did you see on TKR podcast they floated former "Instant Impact, Greatest OC ever" McNulty?

We'd likely be better off hiring a 3rd DL coach.
Missed that. Maybe Aurich plagiarized McNulty's TE playbook, and Harvard found that to be a factor that weighed in favor of his hiring?

Harvard- where plagiarists keep their jobs.

Great idea. But McNulty is available, and @NickRU714 would be intrigued.

Sure let’s say that. Harvard is such a wonderful place to expand your mind.

Yeh if you're a FB coach with no higher coaching aspirations or prospects, ride the Harvard job into retirement. I get it.

If you are a FB coach who is smart enough to be a DI head coach you are also smart enough to know that the road to get there is brutal. The P5 conferences are littered with people like 'some kid from Rutgers who coaches tight ends'. Absolute best case scenario he gets a P5 coordinator job in a couple years somewhere, and then a lower level head coach job, and then a medium level job, and then gets fired, and then start again. And that's if he's lucky. Most position coaches never get that far. So, yeah, I think anyone with any brain at all would take the Harvard job into retirement. Guess what...he's the coach of a D1 program, and all the other folks with their special 'higher coaching aspirations or prospects' ain't, and probably never will be.

Bottom line, the ability to pay B1G comp to our assistants has allowed GS to attract some really really talented people. Of course some will leave for promotions. That goes without saying. The turnover during GS1 was driven by the lack of comp. Plain and simple. TE coach to Harvard head coach? Are you kidding me? You got to take that.

Credit to him for Greg keeping him around after Gleeson who brought Aurich

You can only coach up but so much. TE room needs an infusion of talent because that position has been devoid of production.

Agreed. He was kept after Gleeson was let go so Greg saw value.

As I said the comment was tongue in cheek. I’m sure he is a good guy and a good coach. But every position group he coached was the worst performing on that side of the ball while he was in charge. You can’t always shine ****. But OL, RB saw immediate improvement. You have to see the comedy.

Schiano looking for someone to coach the TE's? I know someone who's currently out of a job and had great success with TE's throughout his coaching career. His name rhymes with "Belichick."

Kind of like when you have to pay a failed executive to go away!

There will be a turnaround when the TEs are no longer blown up QBs.

Gleason had nothing to do with bringing Aurich to Rutgers, Aurich was at RU in 2009 & 2010 & went to Tampa Bay with Schiano in 2012.
