They have taken a dive the last couple years. Wonder who they will get at this time of year.

Really odd timing on the parting of ways. Knowing Ohio State, they will throw money at a big name, but I think it's gotta be tough to land someone this time of year unless maybe it's an NBA guy.

Thad Matta is younger than Halle Berry. This adds basically nothing to the thread, but local radio was talking about it.

Heh...I was listening to that too. I was also shocked to hear that he is only 49 years old. I would have guess 60s.

What does it say if I think more of Halle Berry than Thad Matta? :D

Maybe they can steal Matta's old assistant John Groce away from Akron? Laughing

Rumor, Hoiberg turned it down.

I'm guessing more than a few coaches turned the job down if McDermott has been offered.

Amazing how a coach that never had a winning season at Iowa State could land one of the best jobs in the Big Ten a few years later. Not sure he's a great fit for the Big Ten, Mac can coach offense but his teams play zero defense.

Zero? RollingLaughRollingLaughDon't confuse uptempo with no defense.

2017 Creighton #175 in Field Goal Defense at 43.7%
2017 Nebraska # 222 in Field Goal Defense at 44.7%

2017 Creighton #20 in Scoring Offense at 81.8 PPG
2017 Nebraska #248 in Scoring Offense at 69.9 PPG

So despite scoring 12 points more a game, CU still held their opponents to a lower shooting percentage than Nebraska, but they play zero defense?

I'd think people on this board would be ecstatic at the possibility of McDermott moving on because when he faces Miles one is playing chess, and one is playing checkers. I've said it before and I'll say it again, McDermott should be paying rent for the space he takes up in Miles head.

Oh and Big 10 vs Big East, which conference had the higher conference RPI last year???

Turned down by McDermott? That ought to take some of the wind out of the fans of THE Gasbag State Univ.....

Check that - no it won't.

Bo Pelini had his agent release that he has been offered the Ohio State basketball coaching job. This is for totally serious. Jist like all the other offers Bo had when he was football coach here.

Dang. Wished McDermott would have taken the OSU job. Not a fan of him, despite being a CREIGHTON ALUM AND BASKETBALL FAN OF THEIR TEAM AND NOT NEBRASKA BASKETBALL SORRRY.

I do not like McDermott as a coach. Tom Crean would have been great, imho

Like Crean would take the job at Crayton. He's destined more bigger and better things than that **** hole.

Tom Crean would not be a good fit at Creighton he is a whiny little ahole and the fan base would not like how he acts like a kid who didn't get his way on the sidelines.

Good for McDermott for turning them down, he'd have been on the hot seat from day one and would have been miserable, save for the day they direct deposited his check.

Holtmann got an EIGHT-year deal (at $3.1M per). And he's going to need most of that. OSU has all of nine players on its roster right now. And for the record, I don't think this guy sees the end of his deal.
