Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy hasn't had to explain to his team how difficult its season opener will be.

Instead, he showed players film of Mississippi State and let them ''make those decisions on their own.''

Hopefully they keep listening to the media in making "those decisions on their own." If you are trying to convince someone of something, you never leave out the conclusion. Keep watching that 2012 defense 'Pokes!

Ok, but we really don't know if the D is going to be significantly different than last year at this point.

Do you think that the problem last year was a personnel problem or a philosophical problem?

Think it was too much so called read and react. It's been mentioned before, but don't know if it will change that much. Mullen indicated that it would be the same defense, whatever that means. Maybe his comments were taken out of context. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. Until State shows that they can stop an up tempo offense, nobody believes that they can.

Always the defense and it did suck but I don`t get letting last year`s offense off so easily. Against solid teams they did very little to keep the defense off the field.

Fair enough. But if you have players playing out of position and on athleticism alone, no pass rush, and your secondary are sitting ducks - that's a recipe for failure. We don't have to stop an uptempo offense, just manage it. ["You can't stop Jordan, you can't only hope to contain him."]

Did I forget to mention #juicepoints.

Good points. Maybe the best way to manage it would be to keep it off the field. As JWS aptly put it when we would play Florida: "If you get into a track meet with them, you're not going to win." So we're talking about ball control and eating clock and being disciplined on defense, guess that's managing.

I remember the last time the defense called themselves that. It was back in the late 80's I believe...maybe early 90's. Whenever it was they couldn't stop a snail on a salt bed that season. They should have called themselves the Ole' defense and just shouted that as they waved the ball carrier on by. I really hope this season is different, but until we see results on the field I think we have every right to be skeptical.

If we play defense like last year on sat. OSU will score 60. Like ol ball coach used to say "It's not my job to keep us from scoring".

Pass rush, gotta have it. I learned a little bit from an OSU wr's dad yesterday. he says Chelf is having some problems getting the ball to the wr's.
