Stans would have lost today too, probably by more than just 2 points. Why people want to bury their heads in the sand on this issue is beyond baffling.

Maybe but that doesn't excuse Ray for this one. Seriously had liked what I had seen from him so far but today revived the feeling I had on Hiring Day

This one's on Scott Stricklin

This entire fiasco is Scott Stricklin's fault. He should be held accountable. We won 21 games last year and after Stans "retired", it was still an attractive job. We go hire an unknown and have people leave because they have no relationship or knowledge of him.

Our recruiting class was not that bad, and it could have been better had we hired any of the guys that really wanted the job (Kansas assistant, John Groce, the Murray State coach, Sean Woods, etc.)

But Scott hired a guy who is similar to Croom. Discipline and hard practices to prove a point. He throws off some of our players who would have helped with depth. Then he practices the team so damn hard that they have no legs on game day. Want to know why we can't shoot? That is why.

Now, what do we do? We are stuck with this guy for at least 3 years. Do you want to know what we will look like in the SEC? Take a look at Georgia and Auburn. Same scenario and they are not very good either.

The longer we keep Rick Ray, the longer it will take us to "rebuild".

Did you see the Hump today? Get ready, because that is the way it will be all year. Hell, the students won't even stay after the 1st half of any SEC game.

I have to laugh at this one. Stan would have lost this one by more?

The guy who had a 20+ win average would have lost to Alabama a&m.

I know you guys hated Stans for winning just enough to keep his job but never taking us to that damn Sweet Sixteen but ****... I have heard it all now.

I am pulling for Ray because he is our coach but you Stansbury haters better get ready for an even longer wait for that Sweet Sixteen you bitched so hard for.

The issue with Stans's teams is that they played like the didn't care

Imagine our current roster, if they played like they didn't care. We'd lose every game by 60.

That was very true the last few seasons under Stan but to excuse away losing to Alabama a&m by saying Stan would have lost too is ridiculous.

What roster would Stans have had this year?

The only differences I can possibly think of are that he wouldn't have had so many in-practice injuries, because he didn't make our players practice hard.

Dammit Coach Ray! How in the world can you not take this talented group of 6 scholarship players and never lose!!!!!

Oh wait I know, we should've just let the bipolar message board posters tell us who should be coaching the team. Those same genius one minute, full retard the next, posters could also hand pick our roster each year. Then we'd be awesome!!!!!!111!!!!11!!!111!

In all seriousness, if you didn't know this season would be rough before today, you need to seriously rethink whether you should ever utter a sentence out loud about the game of basketball for the rest of your existence. Horse **** is going to taste like ******* whether or not you put some ranch on it. We'll start to see next season whether we have the right coach.

Great post. Stans wouldn't have lost this game, because he would have better players. Our whole situation was bad even before this loss - apathy is the key word. I have talked to many Bulldogs that just don't care about basketball anymore. I bought 2 season tickets (down from many more than that), but I gave them to my in-laws. I haven't seen a minute of any game - I didn't even know we played today until I saw these posts. I keep reading these posts that is it just good enough that we play hard - that is so stupid. I want to see talent and be competitive - I can go to high school basketball games to see someone play hard. We are at the VERY bottom of the SEC, and we will get beat by 40 points at home with 1000 people in the fans.

Well the 2 guys that Ray kicked off would likely still be on the team and the PG from Texas (Gray I think). I don't know if Hood was planning on leaving or not.

Regardless of what roster we think Stans would have had this year, the point is regardless of who transferred or left early for the draft our roster was always decent. I have no doubt that Stans would have put a better team on the court this year.

For the record, I think Stans sealed his fate by keeping Renardo around and it was probably time for a change. I'm willing to give Ray a fair shot but I'm not impressed so far.

This is the biggest issue. Apathy. I usually buy Full Court so I can see all the MSU games here in Texas. None of the MSU grads I know are even talking about basketball at all, just baseball.

Before someone pulls the ol' Stans apologist card I really thought Stan should have stepped aside about 3 or 4 seasons back. You could tell he didn't have the same fire as he did say back in the game where he gave the choke sign to the ref as he was being ejected. Who's fault is that? It all rests on the AD as far as I am concerned. The biggest issue I have right now is people excusing away the shittastick place we are in completely on Stan.

Let me just ask one simple question... IF we had hired someone with name recognition that we were all assured thousands of times we would get immediately on firing Stan, do you really think we would be in the same roster situation we are now?

Just like I did with Stan, I support Ray because he is the man right now. But I really think we 17ed up on this hire. We could have made one of the assistants an interim coach throughout this season and have have the same results. As crazy as that sounds, I feel almost like we actually did.

I won't make another rant post like this about basketball because it simply is not worth the effort this season. I would LOVE to eat my words and see these guys have some success but when we get beat by Alabama a&m I think it is a pretty safe bet that the dumpster fire will continue to burn strong.

Everyone, STFU. Seriously. We could lose the rest of our games, and with a roster worse than Millsaps right now, Ray gets a complete mulligan on this season. Get a full, healthy roster and lose games like this, then we'll talk/*****. But clam your sphincters and sandy ***'s for this season. You may hate what you see--losing at home to any SWAC team is an embarrassment--but there are a hell of a lot more pressing reasons why it is happening than Scott Stricklin. That will be judged later, but not now, not this year.

That's stupid to say. If Stans was the coach Rodney Hood would have scored 35 points today and we'd of won by 40.

I am with you....

I felt it was beyond time for Stans to go(although it took me longer than most, because I feared the **** we're seeing now), but I think we made a bad hire. I'm supporting Ray and this team, but this "rebuild" wouldn't be AS bad with a better hire in my opinion. Not Ray's fault though, so I support him.

ETA: I agree about the interim assistant having as much, or more, success too. I also think Marcus Grant should have been held on to regardless.

None of those guys wanted this job. Our coaching search was a reality check for our basketball program. Stricklin sucks, but it wasn't like coaches lined up for thi job. We were turned down by several quality candidates, before settling on Ray.

exactly- this season has been a throw away from the beginning...and he is doing exactly what was asked of him by the administration that hired him. Just had the bad luck with 3 season ending injuries

Well, the administration didnt think that two of our scholarship players would choose to continue to smoke dope over keeping their scholarship when they were warned that was the next step.

And nobody had the foresight to see the other season ending injuries coming.

We should have found a way to medical redshirt Jalen Steele after he got hurt. I'm sure he wants to play, but having an extra year of eligibility for him would have made a lot more sense for rebuilding purposes considering how this year is shaping up.

Unless the Sanderson Center is sending a steady stream of capable former 1A, 2A, 3A, and maybe 4A hoop dreamers over to surprise Coach Ray, we need every able and semi-able body that we can. Jalen has to play. It sucks, it's unfortunate, but it's just the way it is right now.

Injuries I can understand but I don't believe that it was a complete surprise that we had two dope smokers on the team and that they might get caught. So that leads me to believe that either we didn't care to make them an example to make a statement, therefore helping destroy our chances to at least be competitive or we simply got caught with our pants down because our guys in charge just ain't as smart as we hoped they would be.

The reason Stans' replacement inherited such a ****** roster is solely because we let Stans keep his job a few years too many. And whose fault is that moron?

The injuries have absolutely killed us. Bloodman should have been the #3 point guard on this team. We were already pretty depleted, but this year would have been manageable without the injuries.
