Visiting Rutgers fulfilled my quest to see a game at all Big Ten Stadiums. Was a great experience. Sadly did not get a Fat Daryl as I was stuffed from the Great Tailgate in Black Lot. A Big Thank you to Piscataway and KingNeptune. Great Hosts.

Loved the set up, Great tailgating environment, excellent fans ( as a native New Yorker, I knew Jersey folk were going to be cool, but some of my Midwest buddies were worried about the Hollywood Sterotype)

Didn't get to see any of the campus other then the Livingston side as traffic from Long Island to the GWB made the trip almost 2:45 and didn't arrive till 4 pm.

I will definitely return. The game was tough, and Rutgers brought it. Tough break on the spike, I really envisioned a Deep Fade to Caroo for a walk off TD.

Thanks again, and Go Rutgers!!!

Hey Sparty - since you have now been to all of the B1G schools, what were your Top 3 best experiences?

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. We had a few MSU fans stop at our tailgate and there were many more tailgating in the Blue Lot. I was very impressed with the large number of MSU fans that took the drive from Michigan. Happy to have broken the stereotype!

Hey Sparty - since you have now been to all of the B1G schools, what were your Top 3 best experiences?

1. Nebraska. You can not find a kinder more welcoming crowd. Very knowledgeable fan base, great stadium, great stadium food ( Runza meat pie) Just a great pre game environment

2. Northwestern. This is kind of a skewered answer as Chicago is a very big MSU town with lots of MSU alums and MSU bars. You party in Chicago, Wrigleyville area and then the BAR puts you on a bus with a Keg and drives you to Evanston. The stadium is almost always half or at least 1/3 MSU fans

3. Wisconsin. Great Town. Great food ( Brats on State Street, Coffee cake and breakfast at Mickies, cheese curds) Cool fan base. Jump Around is really neat to experience live.

Honorable mention Iowa
Honorable Honorable mention Purdue with the Breakfast Club

Three worst

1. Ann Arbor ( This may not apply to other fan bases) but the um/MSU rivalry makes it a bad place. To have children, encouraged by their trash wal mart wolverine fan parents, flipping you off and telling you to go the f**k home little brother gets old. Terrible seats that are too small for even Kate Moss to fit a butt cheek on, let alone an average human, terrible sight lines. Just a terrible town

2. Illinois. Other then the Pizza at Papa Dels , nothing endearing about place. had no vibe. A small tailgate crowd, no real passion from the fans, Just blah

3. Penn St. ( admittedly I went in '94 when they had Ki Jana Carter, Kyle Brady, Kerry Collins and were just damn good) but kind of obnoxious fan base. Didn't get a great feel for the party scene, took forever to get in and get out of State College.

I hope you all get a chance to experience the Big Ten and make your own opinions. It is one of the greatest things on Earth. Big Ten Football in Fall.

I'm shocked to hear someone say the penn state fan base is kind of obnoxious. Shocked. Really, just shocked.

I have to say that the PSU fans that came to Piscataway were somewhat obnoxious. Some were nice, some were worse than obnoxious. However, my tailgating experience at PSU was surprisingly pleasant. There was the occasional F Rutgers thrown out by frat boys walking past our tailgate but overall we were treated well and with respect by their fans.

I totally agree with this statement....and the Runza...O.M.G. delicious!!
Hey, RU has great stadium food. The best sub I ever ate was the half-eaten one I found under the seats in the rain at that WVU game. Mmmmmmm!!!! And free!

yep, it's true. He almost ate what looked like 3 week old pork roll this week until we stopped him. I think it was the evil eye that MrsRP78 gave him that prevented it from happening.

We met a bunch of MSU fans on the buses leaving the stadium. They were all really friendly and impressed by our campuses.

For the most part the MSU fans were nice, especially the couple I helped find their way back to the Gateway deck after getting off the bus too early. As for their fans who sat in 116...d*cks doesn't even begin to cover it. Not as bad a Wisconsin, but they're a close #2. If there were any karma in college football, MSU would have lost the game and the mouthy drunks I had to put up with all night would have eaten their snuggies.

I have a tiny hunch that he was talking about ttfp, many of whose fans, or at least posters, say how much we suck in every facet of everything, including hospitality.

yeah.. one guy had a ttfp pedophile oriented sign/flag on ttfp's first visit here and our whole fanbase was accused of being bad hosts and rude, etc. I have been told the cult members are indoctrinated to be great hosts to visitors.. but they likely need that level of brainwashing on the subject.

What this Sparty fan experienced is probably the gameday experience of many many visiting PSU fans at Rutgers.. but they have their "story" so the cult is going with that.

Runza, thanks for the tip. I was looking for a Nebraska-based food to make for our tailgate; looks perfect (but takes time to make for 2 dozen people). Anyone here tried making it/tips not found in the recipes available on the Internet?

I wonder if that's just like some other fan bases where it's the local contingent that gives them a bad name? NJ Cuse fans were always the worst. ND subway alumni were always more obnoxious in my experience.

While I can say I agree about the Nebraska fans and overall experience, the Runza was not my favorite.

@knightfan7 My husband came to the same conclusion...the NJ based PSU fans were jerks. the Pa based fans were not.

@LeapinLou really? they were so delicious, especially after @huskersalways party the night before.

@soundcrib certainly the Arkansas people that walked through the mosh pit of students that day did not have a good time. I hosted a bunch of Arkansas fans who had a wonderful time and I know that when @Southern Gentleman came to the first RU game this year he and his bride had a fantastic time.
