Only one WNC football coach has more state championships than Gentry, and that's Robbinsville's Bob Colvin, who claimed 11 state titles in 15 years with the Black Knights from 1969-83.

The Black Knights also won state titles in 1992 and 2014, giving the program a total of 13 1-A championships in 46 years (1969-2014).

For its overall excellence, the Robbinsville football program will be inducted as a WNC dynasty team.

The Black Knights have certainly been blessed through the years with great atheletes and great coaching, especially Coach Colvin who was ahead of his time in running multiple offensive sets that opposing teams had difficulty defending....I'm also sure that he is proud of his protege Dee Walsh who as a former WR on a couple of those state championship teams, has carried forward that great and proud tradition in Graham County....

Congrats to all the former Black Knight players, coaches and fans on this achievement!

He told me once when I was interviewing him for a Rosman/Robbinsville game that he was a WR on one of those teams....I also had thought that he was a QB, but he corrected me on that fact!

Don't know Kevin. Last year would of been a good season if not for all the injuries. I just don't know.
I think we will have a big senior class. That's all I know.

Dee and Scott Perkins both played QB. Dee was also a very good receiver, so Colvin played him in both positions. By their senior year, Dee was mostly playing as a receiver, but he still took quite a few snaps. It certainly came in handy to have two guys that could play QB with equal skill.

One the true pleasures of reading this board is to read comments from fans like yourself Go4itKnights....When I asked Dee about his playing days, he was quick to tell me that he played WR and not QB which obviously shows the respect that he had for Scott Perkins and his talent as a signal caller, and reflects his true character and integrity as a man to give credit to another without heaping praise upon himself....He also once told me that the two biggest influences in his life were his father and Bob Colvin, so he quite obviously had good mentors and men to look up too as a youngster when he was wearing the colors of the Black Knights.....Robbinsville got a big boost for sure when he returned home to coach his Alma-mater....

Once again, thanks for the history lesson on your Black Knights!
