To be clear, you’re saying there’s a 6-figure sum headed this guy’s way because he got his shirt grabbed, when about 8 different camera angles show him verbally harrassing the player beforehand, hanging over the railing, and even a video of him bragging AFTER the incident and saying “that was the goal”.
If you’d even been half-*** following the situation, there’s no way you’d be able to find a scenario where this guy was a victim of a grave injustice.

Well, first off, there’s still 2 games left in the season. So all of those are of course going to likely be lower right now when compared against season-long totals in previous years. Game averages for yards and receptions are still fairly consistent with previous years.
Secondly, he’s very much being held back by an ancient, way over-the-hill QB who can’t get the ball down the field like he used to. Rodgers is 24th in the league in QBR, 24th in YPA, 23rd in YPG. That’s a much bigger factor in the lack of peak production than anything that has happened on Metcalf’s side of the equation.
It will be interesting to see what Steelers do. I suspect nothing. But if they want out of a big contract they can get out.

NFL players don't get paid by the teams in the playoffs. They earn money from a league pool based on how far they go.

And I’ll type this again slowly, since you missed it once already….there’s video evidence of the guy bragging to friends about getting the reaction out of Metcalf and saying that he did it on purpose. That by itself kills any case the guy has.
It’s my understanding the fan had already stolen Metcalfe’s jersey from the locker room TWICE in the same night. And then he tried to run him off the road. So I’d say he had it coming.
Even if they wanted out, why cut him? You can trade him, and the other team gets the same contract. Why let your best WR go for nothing when you can get something for him?
Pitt cuts him to save $25 million, they’re out a WR, and someone else is gonna sign him for $25 million. It’d be a very dumb move for the Steelers.

I think assault is anything physical that could make the other person think they are in danger of being hurt. Just putting your hand on someone you’re arguing with could be assault.
It's more of a by-product of not having a true #2 WR receiver in addition to Arthur Smith's offense not being a pass heavy offense. The Steelers have always been a run first /play good defense organization.
Out of the top 6 leaders in receptions, DK is the only receiver and he's #2. Gainwell is 1st along with 3 TE and Jaylen Warren. The offense is not designed to go down the field.
Grabbing and attempting to punch someone is simple assault most places. Maybe not in Detroit.
