The Absolute Shame That Is Kentucky Football

We as fans are living this nightmare. Rival game. Possible bowl game. Spotted 20 points. Allowed 31 unanswered. And check our schedule next year. It's only getting worse. And think we won't lose a few recruits because of this? Absolutely devastating loss. Why does our FB program have to remain so friggin' bad and embarrassing?

The irony in all of this, is that Barnhart refused to extend Morris's contract after going 7-5. However, he gladly threw millions at Stoops for going 5-7. Make some sense of that! Only at UK does this type of buffoonery continually happen. If this doesn't qualify as evidence of his ineptitude, then I don't know what does.

Because we're not willing to do what it takes to fix this mess. Three years ago we had a chance to hire an elite football coach. Instead we passed - and he's beaten us three straight years. If key people's jobs depended on winning at football then Mike Leach or Bobby Petrino would be the coach at UK right now and things would look a lot different. But they obviously don't so we end up with the same old shat.

I disagree. Petrino is a very good (not great coach). But he is a horrible person with no morals or ethics. I am confident he would have been the best person we could have gotten to finally get our FB program out of the SEC basement. However, I am glad UK did not hire him because of his ethics and off the field issues.

One of the things that bothers me, is this coaching staff doesn't seem to take any responsibility for what is going on. They continually throw the players under the bus. And some of the players deserve it, but still as coaches, you gotta publicly take responsibility. And this coaching staff is pretty bad at game management and player development.

This was a very disappointing year (again). Our first 4 wins were all within 10 points, so this season could have even been worse. Had to pull out a miracle at home against EKU (yes, EKU).

Brain dead. No elite coach will come to UK.

And most people on this board were happy that we didn't throw $$ at GM. And how did he work out at talent rich Baylor?

And again, most people on this board cheered the Stoops extension.

Of course I'm sure you were the exception.

I was. You want to dig up any posts where I supported it? Evidently you supported it and are looking foolish right now, and are desperate to lump some others in to share your misery.

I'm not going to do your work for you. I never said everyone, I said most. Not surprised that you'd claim you were one of those in the opposing camp.

I've been claiming it all along. That's why I get attacked so much. Don't be a hater. And don't be so quick to point fingers.

Talent rich Baylor?! When Morris left for Baylor, they were an absolute **** show. With a history equally as bad, possibly worse than UK. As to Stoops extension, I was more surprised than anything else.

Petrino may be average, but he's 6-1 against us. A lot of teams have wanted him in the past. His character is shady, but he can coach. STOOPS CAN NOT! Unfortunately we're stuck with him for at least 2 more seasons.

Liked your post. But that is not strong enough to indicate how totally I agree with your post. Barnhart has been, is currently, and always will be (unless he is fired or otherwise departs) the problem with our FB program!!

Surely some high profile program will come steal our Athletic Director of the Year!!! [laughing][laughing][laughing][laughing][laughing][laughing][laughing][laughing][laughing][laughing]

We should have known we were in trouble after the EKU game.

No game plan, no adjustments, no leadership. But at the end of the game when our players realized they were about to lose, guys like Towles stepped up and just out-talented EKU to a win, because we sure didn't out-coach them.

And yet Towles shouldered the majority of the blame for losses this season.

Now Towles - a guy who because of his pedigree should have been a star UK quarterback to the end - is leaving. That just makes me sick. That's no knock on Barker - I think he'll be a good QB for us - but I think Towles deserved better. Wherever he goes, I wish the best for hm.

This is right on. I saw signs of concern during the FIRST GAME of the season when ULL nearly came back and caught us, but it was the EKU game, that overtime THRILLA, that signaled the beginning of the long, slow, circling of the toilet bowl for UK football.

"We're Just Getting Started, Bro...."

Guy Morriss already had the Baylor head coaching job committed and tried to leverage Mitch into a bigger contract. This has been pointed out numerous times. Guy, who is a respected coach and gentleman is now coaching youth football in Lexington.

Jeebus Cripes, will you people stop with this nonsense. Telling people they aren't fans, or telling them to get lost, is the absolute worst kind of attitude. Some people, believe it or not, will take your advice and how will that help the program? People need to vent in order to get past this complete debacle. Get over yourself and stop telling people what to do.

It was my understanding that Morris was trying to get better contracts for his assistants . I'm also curious if our oline coach could put together a line that could block Guys youth league defense

Guy certainly wanted to keep the assistants, but he was trying to leverage a better deal for himself. UK wanted all association with Hal Mumme's regime erased. What followed was a probation one step away from the death penalty.

Well I'm going on memory and I might not have had completely accurate info anyway . But I have always thought that Mitch's heart wasn't really into the negotiations because he thought he was going to be able to hire a big name coach .
