What’s the loudest you’ve ever heard a college football team’s home stadium? It could be a play, a moment or a full game. The Athletic’s writers and editors weigh in here.

I've always wondered how sincere some of those quotes posted all over Harvey's were and Mandel's is right there at the entrance so was curious as to what he would say. 10 years later -
Stewart Mandel: The loudest I’ve ever heard a stadium was in 2014 in Starkville, Miss., down on the field at the end of a No. 2 vs. No. 3 game between Dak Prescott-led Mississippi State and Auburn. Which may seem surprising given the Bulldogs play in a 60,000-seat stadium, but when all of Davis Wade Stadium clangs those cowbells at once, it is truly deafening. As much as any 100,000-seat place, especially when Mississippi State was about to become No. 1.

and actually immediately followed by this -
Mitch Light: David Wade Stadium at Mississippi State. It was November 2014, the week after the Bulldogs lost to Alabama and dropped from No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings. But they were still No. 4, and they dominated Vanderbilt 51-0 behind Prescott. The cowbells definitely play a factor in the noise level, but it was still an incredible environment, at night, with a very good Mississippi State team.

Ah the good ole days! Fun times. Keep the faith guys, this too shall pass and we'll get it back. (wink)

Weird to have an incredible environment without LED lights. Wonder why?

The Jonathan Banks 100 yard pick six of Tebow in 2009 is the loudest single play I can recall. The stadium shook. I was in the middle deck chairback section on the west side. My smelly cup was sitting directly under me and it turned over (it was not kicked over)

The loudest all around game I remember was Arkansas 2010.

Give us a competitive team and an aggressive defense that can get after the quarterback and our atmosphere will return.

1999 Egg Bowl, CJ wide open and kick/pick were pretty damn loud too.

But I don't remember there being nearly as many cowbells pre-2010 when they were legalized again technically. I would bet decibel-wise, the loudest game has been since then. The one positive lasting legacy that Loaferz did leave with.

Loudest was at Florida's Swamp when we lost like 51-0.
Next loudest was at Oregon when we lost big also.
Third loudest was at Memphis in the Liberty Bowl vs. Air Force. I think every Bulldog fan in the stadium had a cowbell in hand.

2014 Auburn was probably the loudest game environment for me. But as far as loudest plays, there are two that stand out:

1. Anthony Johnson 100+ yd pick 6 right before halftime against Bama 2007.

2. Derek Pegues punt return against OM also 2007.

I’m glad to relive those two memories as I was glad to be there at both games myself, the Alabama game with an OM fan friend of mine and the Egg bowl with an Arkansas fan I raced dirt bikes with, both said it was louder than they ever heard it at their stadiums. I will say it was definitely loud for sure, I remember Titus Brown causing the pressure leading to the ill advised throw by John Parker Wilson. And of course I’ll never forget that egg bowl comeback. I also remember when our secondary were laying the licks and separating the ball from the OM receivers. Especially Shay Hodge getting punished by Jamar Chaney, hell I believed he was nearly dead for a bit.

You had to keep swinging at that Liberty Bowl, to keep your blood circulating!

Anthony Johnson pick 6 is the correct answer on loudest single play. What an incredible moment.

I was there - atmosphere was great until the game actually started. I have yet to feel that combination of cold and miserable since.
