We are in week seven. There are two games in the Battlefield this week that should be very good and tell a story on how the rest of the season will shake out. While there is one clear front runner, everything after that is either cloudy or has a question mark beside it.

Let’s see what this week looks like.

Caroline vs Spotsylvania

This is going to be a very, very good game. In years past, both of these teams have been down. This year they are both showing some life. Instead of fighting for the last spot in the district they are both pushing to finish higher up the list. Rest assured this game will be fought for four full quarters. Which one pulls it off? Tough to say. Going with a gut feeling here mainly because I am torn as to which one is most ready. Spotsy gets the W.

Chancellor @ Eastern View

Chancellor showed a lot of life last week against Courtland until special teams let them down in the second half. Their youth showed in that department but the Freshmen QB looked really good. None of that will matter this week. The Cyclones will not be denied or even challenged until they get past the regular season. Eastern View with the W.

Courtland @ King George

Here is the other game to see this week. And once again I am torn. Both capable and both with the desire to get it done. Just going with the gut feeling again. Courtland gets the W.

James Monroe Bye week.

JM takes this week off to regroup.

Good luck to the players and the coaching staffs! Keep charging the playoffs are just around the corner. Folks, you need to get out on Friday night and see your favorite team play! It won’t be too much longer and we’ll be talking about next year!!!

This makes 3 weeks in a row that you have picked against KG. Here's hoping you are 0 for 3 after Friday!!! Please tell me we will get some love vs Chancellor and Spotsy at least!!!

Out of Courtland, Chancellor, and KG, and from seeing them all live, KG is the best team this year, IMO. They don't really have the skill kids this year (they're on JV), but those NFL sized lines can cause problems for everyone besides EV. They've already beaten the third best team, JM.

I agree, defense is playing pretty well right now as well. Those NFL sized linemen are sophomores and you are correct about the skill players being on JV and the middle school teams this year. We are definitely young!

I'm guessing the KG/Court game will be very close....turnovers will probably determine this one.

Trust me, I am not slighting King George. The Foxes always have my love. Coach Smith is a class act and he can get it done. Many times all I have is film to review and make a call on what I see. The Foxes will rattle some cages before the year is over.

CFan, will you be at the game tonight? Will this be your first look at EV live if yes? If so, I look forward to your post game thoughts.

EVcyc....how long do you think a coach should get to turn around a program??? Culpeper has not had a winning record in 16 years!!!! I don't want to hear "well we made the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years"...big deal. They would be in them now with a win-less record if the season ended today. Making the playoffs the way the system is now is not a measuring stick for your program. I believe the talent is there to be a winning program.

Hahahaha. I am not a "WE" when it comes to CC, so lets start with that. I will say this, CC is the second largest 3A school and they have the enrollment to go 4A (several teams have a smaller enrollment and they are 4A), yet when they lose to Liberty, EV or any other 4A team in the area, (all of which are within 100 students of them) they complain about having to play the big bad 4A schools. Unfortunately, SIZE DOESN'T MATTER in this case. Ask, JM, Salem or Central (the 1A team with over 600 less students than CC that beat them in back to back years).
The next excuse they use, is we lose our athletes to other schools. They don't want to solve the why that happens they just want it to stop happening. What they don't understand is you hear the middle school kids using these same excuses, this same language, parents of the kids saying the same stuff. They are breeding the next generation to already be prepared to lose. I manage people who's job it is to solve problems, to meet certain targets. When they are solving the wrong problem, we miss our target. CC needs to start solving the right problem.
I don't know how long a coach should have to start winning, but they should start changing the culture immediately.
I will give 1 story (this was about 3 years ago)..
I happen to be watching the end of one of CC's practice while waiting for my son. They were running 11 on 11. They ran, must have been 10 plays in a row, where anything that could go wrong went wrong, fumbles, missed snaps, false starts, picks, etc. On the 11th play, they connected on a deep pass (defender fell in coverage). The whole group, some coaches included, jumping around, the kids doing chest pumps. Then practice ended. They felt pretty good. I remember thinking, they will never get to that play with all the other crap they were failing at.
It's not the kids, you can't expect to build leaders if you don't have anyone mentoring them to lead. They have had great athletic competitive kids there over the last 5 years.
One message I have given my kids is it's ok to have confidence, it's ok to have some swag, but know your weaknesses, know your strengths, improve them both. Generally, If you think you are better than you are, it will keep you from being better than you are.

Contrary to most of the CC fans belief, EV fans want them to get better. We need the points :)

I think that new AD at culpeper will make a smart decision after this year. She is a tough AD and wants to be successful. They need to hire a proven winner not a friend of a friends or not someone who donates to the school athletic dept etc
