I remember this era of MSU football. It started on 9/11/2001. We had just beaten Memphis the night before.Then that terrible day happened. We were the first college football game on TV after 9/11 and we laid an egg against South Carolina. Then it all went down hill after that. Jackie's mother getting sick, the failure of juco players to jell, the ongoing NCAA investigation and Larry Templeton's failure to remove Jackie and let the program to hit the bottom..... and I mean the BOTTOM. Then in what I call The best Public Relations move that LT made..He hired Sly Croom. Now we all know he was not the greatest on field coach any of us have ever seen....but theTHERE IS ONLY ONE COLOR THAT MATTERS HERE AND THAT COLOR IS....................MAROONStatement brought State fans together as one. Well we all know what happened next. We suffered some more. Oh therewere some great wins in between... Fla, Ala, And the comeback against the trolls. All in all Croom brought the program back to being respected, not in wins but in how we handled ourselves with pride in knowing we are going to do it right. The Liberty Bowl was thehigh point in the Croom era. Little did we know in less than a year the score 45-0 would be a cry for change again. This time though things were going to be a whole lot different. There was a new marshall in town and his name was Greg"the ninja"Byrne...... The search was on for a fresh approach to football at MSU. Someone to bring in an exciting brand of offense with him and his name was Dan Mullen.....Now look at us. We have beaten teams named Georgia, Florida and Michigan in a New Years Day bowl. Not only to mention THE SCUM FROM UP NORTH not only once but TWICE in two years since Mullen has been here..... So lets look at the present. We sit hereon these message boards complaining about losing players named Tobias, Nick, Jermaine, and C.J. When the Players we should be concerned with are namedRelf, Perkins, Bumphis, and list goes on. The next thing we need to concern ourselves with is getting to a BCS Bowl. Because the best way to piss off a bear in the words of Al Davis is JUST WIN BABY..................................
