Did you know?

- the spot Princeton and Rutgers played at was privately owned and never called "College Field" during its 1869-1890 life as Rutgers football home

- the teams had substitutes, Rutgers lists 27 players on a plaque in the College Avenue Gym; only 24 of the 25 Princeton players have been identified

- the first game was best 6 out of 11 goals kicked from the field of play; the second game held at Princeton was best 8 out of 15

- the youngest player in the first game was 16, the oldest 29

- the Rutgers players all earned their football letter but the Princeton team, en masse, did not because Princeton did not award football letters in 1869

- Rutgers and Princeton met 71 times in football but never again on any November 6

Congratulations Rutgers and Princeton - the originators of intercollegiate football in America!
