Thread hijack: as a Braves or Cards fan would you rather
See your team win the WS this year, or have MSU go 10-2 and go to the capital one or cotton bowl? As a Braves fan, I say MSU 10-2. It's a tough call seeing as how I started going to Braves games when Oddibe McDowell, mark lemke, Greg Olson, Lonnie smith, Jeff treadway, and Charlie liebrandt were regulars. As an aside, I got a baseball card autographed by Francisco Cabrera in 90 or 91.

"I like the fact that an additional Wild-Card team makes the playoffs. It'll make September even more competitive. However, I'm undecided whether I like the one-game playoff. On the one hand, it would be incredibly exciting and will draw plenty of ratings. On the other hand, let's say a 95-67 Braves team finishes 2nd in the NL East to the 96-66 Phillies, but beats out the 2nd-place Wild-Card team (Reds 88-74) by 7 games. Should it really come down to just one winner-take-all game? I might favor a 3-game series more with the 1st place Wild-Card team getting the 1st&3rd games at home."
Funny how it played out exactly like this for the Braves. I just don't know if I like this one game format. It does make the end of the regular season more exciting, and I'm sure plenty of people will be watching tonight, but think how Ranger's fans will feel if they lose to the Orioles. I think a 3-game series makes more since, but I'm no Bud Selig...

i think it is even more crazy that the 4 teams playing today get to have an active roster for just this 1 game

However, if given the choice, I would rather start a pitcher that has no playoff history such as Medlen vs. a pitcher that I know has never had success.

I've been arguing for it for years, and i'm still in favor. but ask me again tomorrow. though it would work more as it was intended if they didn't have the unneeded off-day tomorrow. this way any ace used today would be ready on normal rest for Game 4 of the 5 game Division Series. without that uneeded off day it would be Game 5, meaning the WC team would have to use all 5 of it's pitchers if it stayed on normal rest, which is potentially a large advantage to the Division winner....as it should be. but at least it keeps the ace of a WC team from being used twice in a 5 game series. that's the main point of the setup.
I never liked the idea of a one game playoff.
But I must say that I haven't been this anxious about a Braves game in a long time.
