The case for Super Kamario

First, let me say I"m super proud of the team last night and they laid it on the line. Shapen had a pretty good game. However, in the second half Arizona State's defense had our number. We couldn't run at all, couldn't find receivers open and struggled to move the ball at all. Meanwhile the momentum went to ASU and they began to run it down our throat. I felt like it was a perfect time in the 3rd quarter to bring in Kamario and let him run his style of offense for at least 1 series if not 2 or 3. They probably wouldn't have an answer for a true running QB at that point and he would have pumped up the team and crowd. If they started to stop him, you could put Shapen back in. It's the same way we used Dak as a freshman. Am I crazy or not?

Is there any indication Kamari is ready? Is he even 2nd string at this point? I guess I completely blanked on who came in in the USM game and how they did.

He's ready to run. He's the best athlete we have EVER had at QB. He's a better athlete than Dak and Sleepy. Plus he's 6'4" and 230lbs and can run like a deer. He's always fired up and warms up with the team first instead of the QB's because he's a stud athlete. We will NEVER have another QB like him. Trust me, he will be a game changer. Look at how Leavit ran against us when he tried to in the second half. Kamario is a better runner and maybe a better passer than that guy. He may not be able to read defenses yet, but there's not much to read when ASU is smothering our receivers. Spread them out, give him 1 hot read, count to 2, and run.

He’s taken 2 snaps in college & doesn’t know the offense. I’m find bringing him in for a play a couple of times per game. Big if he’s our QB in the 2 nd half we probably don’t win that game.
I may agree, and I'm all for Shapen. I just think we should brink Kamario in for a change of pace when our offense isn't working.

I don't make my living as a coach so I could be wrong, but I was thinking give him a series about halfway through the second quarter.

He will get playing time in up to 4 games. He will be redshirted unless Shapen goes down. We’ll see a lot of him this weekend, and not much more after that.

I may be willing to start a QB controversy once we start losing games. Until then this is Shapen's team. If you have 2 QBs then you don't have any

State won last night because the oline held up long enough for our Portal QB to hit a wide open portal receiver! We are fine at QB right now. Shapen had as good a chance of getting hurt by all the fans who stormed the field as he did running the ball because he knows his limitations. Booth and Bothwell and probably Daniels have to bounce it like their 2 guys were doing it. But there has to be concerted effort to run the 3 running backs the next two weeks. I don't care if QB 1 throws 15 passes each of the next two games.

There is literally no reason to ever redshirt a player again (if he’s ready & has opportunities to play) in this age of the transfer portal

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
If you have an opinion on the subject, why not just add your point in football terms instead of asking others to be quiet? It's a sports forum.

You have this idea that he’s a running QB. No he’s a passing QB who can run. Let pause on he’s ready he’s still learning the game and the position. Once the light comes on he’ll be ready. Let’s not rush his development

I totally agree with you. I didn't mean I wanted him to start, just come in for a change of pace every now and then. He is our best dual threat option. No offense to Kromenhoek, but the fans get more exited over Kamario. There is a reason why Lebby put him in on the goal line against USM.

And there was a reason we went to Luke in the fourth and not Taylor

You asked a question, I answered it. But I'll answer it more plainly, yes you're crazy, in the same context as you used it.

Shapen didn’t have the greatest comp % but take away the drops & he's mid 60s which is pretty good.
He threw for 280 yds 3 tds & no turnovers.
He is also the unquestionable leader of this offense & team. When he wasn't playing, he was being that leader on the sidelines.

If he was struggling at the half, I may tend to agree with you, but continuity matters, especially in a big game like this. You don't tinker with that when your qb his having an above average game.

Checks, reads, audibles & lining up are all things Shapen is much more above the other 2 qbs. The mental aspect.

No doubt Taylor is a physical specimen, can already make the throws & will be great for us in due time.

I wish all State fans could watch just one good practice.

I didn't take it as anyone saying we need to create a controversy or that Shapen wasn't the guy....but I do agree when our offense was in lock down for a majority of the second half, it may not have been a terrible idea to let Taylor run it a few times to try and create some sort of positive yardage and momentum on O.

Shapen is 100% the guy, but having Taylor out there creates a mismatch for the defense and could open a few holes that were not opening in the second half.

But no doubt Shapen is QB 1, and anyone saying otherwise would be foolish. At least at this point in the season. Now if we get to where Bowl Eligibility is out of the question with a few games remaining...play Taylor, bc why not? Like someone above stated, redshirting is dumb in this day in age

Thank you sir. You and I aren't too far apart in opinion. Yep, Shapen can run the offense better and I've said he is the most talented arm MSU has had as far as accuracy and arm strength combo. His ability to put the ball on the money downfield is very, very good. He also has a glass body and I hope he finishes the season. BTW if you've seen practice, I would love to hear some further thoughts. Nothing but respect.(y)

It seemed pretty clear from the southern game that the staff has every intention of playing KT in goal line/short yardage situtations. So, I think we'll all get a chance to see what he can do in the coming weeks. But If I have a QB throwing zero pix and every 6th completion is a dime for ~ 50 yds and a score then I make sure he's on the field every snap.

I also watch film, with my son to teach him & on the opposing team. He's wanting to be a sportscaster, has media credentials & will intern with ESPN next summer. I've been involved in football one way or another most of my life.

I'll check out TN, with him, if I get a chance & post something game week.
