And it is completely blowing me away that Tenn and OM fans are saying this is "running it up". What the 17 were we suppose to do??

Anyone saying that, either:

(a) didn't watch the game;
(b) doesn't understand football;
(c) is a complete moron;
(d) both (a) and (b);
(e) both (a) and (c);
(f) both (b) and (c); or
(g) all of the above.

Anyone suggesting that is just being irrational.

If you're up by 3 points and you can't take a knee to run out the clock, it's impossible to run up the score.

Would these people have us take a knee and give UT the ball back?

OM and Tenn fans are idiots

We would have a much more recent SEC title than ol 41 if not for an 89 yard pass on the last play of a game. Anyone remember Lindsay Scott? Coached by Vince Dooley?

Absolutely the right call. UT has the receiver to pull that crap off, and we would NEVER hear then end of Dooley II if it had happened.

Exactly. I personally thought he'd put Dak in and tell him to run around as long as he could without crossing the 20.

But actually, the play he ran was the safest possible. It was either going to end in a) a sack, b) an incompletion, c) a touchdown, d) and EXTREME outside shot at a fumble.

Either way, he'd be stupid to try a FG there knowing it wouldn't help us and risking a block and a return for a TD.

My brother had a great idea for a play there. Put Dak in the shotgun with Perkins joining him in the backfield. Hike the ball and have Dak and Perkins run toward the MSU goal line making sure that Perkins is behind Dak (closer to the Tennessee goal) by about 5 yards. Once they get to our goal line Dak turns and throws the ball (forward) at Perkins feet. Most likely you ran out all the time but if not it is an incomplete pass and Tennessee gets the ball on their own 8 where the line of scrimmage was.

Granted, I like what Dan did better but I thought it was an interesting idea.

And then Dak trips over his feet at the 30 with 2 seconds left, Tennessee gets a FG to send it into overtime, and we all go NOOCLEEAR

45 was talking **** that entire drive. At least twice he mouthed off after making stops. While the clock continued to run and them with no timeouts. He looked like a Dubmass.

I think Russell talked Dan into running this play, and it was a great confidence booster for Russell as well as putting an exclamation point on the win for the entire team.

No freaking way. What if he dropped the ball? What if he tripped and fell? Too dangerous. What about throwing the ball straight up in the air such that it comes down just past the end line? Clock would run until it hit the ground right? Probably would get 3-4 seconds in the pocket and 3-4 seconds of air time. Still would be time for a miracle though which has happened.

Yeah, that's a terrible idea. We ran the smart play in the situation and the right play. 15 seconds is a hell of a long time to try to run off of the clock and you don't want to give them the ball back with a chance to win the game. The only play to call in that situation is the one we did. You either ice the game or you give them the ball inside their own 10 with about 10 seconds left.

For that matter, he could have just run 92 yards backwards and out the end zone. Sure it would screw up his stats with a 92 yard loss, but it would virtually guarantee a 33-32 victory. Just make sure there are 0 seconds left when he runs out so we wouldn't have to kickoff.

Probably too much time for that, but if we're up 3 with 7 seconds to go against Alabama, it could work.

Georgia at South Carolina, 1986. I don't remember the names of any of the players, but Georgia was winning by 5, 4th down around midfield, with just a few seconds left on the clock. Dooley had his QB just start running around towards the Georgia goal line until time expired....at which point he tossed the ball over his shoulder in celebration. A USC defender picked up the ball and ran it into the endzone. Fortunately for Georgia, back then the defense could not advance a fumble recovery so the game was over once USC picked up the ball.

I get your point but if Dak can't handle not tripping over his feet while running wide open down the field I think we have some serious issues already.

And that dude is as cool as it gets

My buddy and I were sitting in the hump parking lot after the game, just tossing back a few. Johnson walks by, we offered him a beer. He sat and chilled with us. Never mentioned who he was or the game he had. Finally when we realized he was a player, asked who he was, he said #6. Then he thanked us for the beer, said the team is ready for Bama and strolled on.
