But they were stillplayingit some during the play atgames last year, "accidently of course"

Edited to add: I was at the Auburn game and they were playing it during plays. My Auburn buddy was going balistic over it is why I know that they were doing it.

Then it is not something made for artifical noise just my symbolic way of supporting my university, similar to a pom pom. Then I can bang it on the aluminum seat, beacuse it is there for a seat not a noise maker, and everything is ok. See where this can of worms can get crazy, Law Boy?

For coming to the conclusion I was leading you to. I don't think this is a can of worms at all. As a matter of fact,I honestly think that this could be the solution to the cowbell issue.<div><div><div>

I'd rather have the cowbell issue in the papers and rebels on the board complaining about the "unfair advantage" that bells bring to DWS than have no one care like in the Croom era. Seems like some people are still a little pissy over a certain beatdown in November of last year.

41-27 anyone?

Simply put, the SEC has no case that would pass a logic test or a fairness test. But that's neverstopped them before.

This is all about keeping the bottom of the SEC from upsetting the top teams in the conference.

This is now the seventh time in this thread you have changed the argument due to being proven a dumbass.

I honestly don't know why anyone cares. The noise level still doesn't approach Neyland stadium, for instance, and from what I can tell the cowbells haven't exactlyhelped MSU win football games the last decade.

I just wish the SEC would stop with the lies and trying to mask what the "artificial noisemaker rule" really is. It'd be nice if they could be honest and call it a "cowbell rule."

But we banned sticks because we couldn't ban a specific flag, not because the administration was trying to avoid acknowledging the symbol.

we are banning sticks because we can't ban the flag. It would have sounded a lot better.

You're talking about media relations now, and I can't remember how that was all publicized. All I know is that we clearly were banning sticks to ban the flag, but we weren't banning sticks to avoid having to acknowledge the symbol. The way I remember hearing about it is that it was done because the symbol couldn't be banned.

as sneaky Veazey stated in today's blog...

"As we reported in this notebook item in today’s Clarion-Ledger, SEC spokesman Charles Bloom said Tuesday in response to a question that he anticipates that the league’s artificial noisemaker policy will be revisited by.."

The BIG ISSUE here is WHO ASKED THE QUESTION? Is Veazey up to his old negative slant stuff. Black helicopters all over this one.

As far as the minor little issue about cowbells, I'm indifferent. I retired mine 20 years ago and haven't missed it. Maybe a compromise would be that cowbells can be used only in the student section. Reduce the noise, keep the tradition. But that solution wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell.

Sticks and flags aside, I don't see The Kernel shuffling around the sidelines much anymore either... What's the reasoning behind that, if not to distance yourself from the symbolism?

Dr. Keenum has been and is prepared to fight this to the death. He is passionate about this and has talked with Slive about it on multiple occasions.
The argument is that "well, MSU is breaking a rule, and the SEC can't just turn a blind eye to a member institution disregarding a rule." The fact is that there are several SEC rules that are broken every time one of their institutions takes the field (Alcohol, Ticket Scalping, etc...) So if they are going to punish us for breaking a rule, they sure as hell better be ready to fine or punish every other SEC school for ANY rule violation, because a rule is a rule and none are more severe than others.
The university has done studies on decibel levels in SEC stadiums, and MSU does not rank in the top half even with all of those dreaded cowbells.
This is simply an issue of trying to keep the small school down, and now is the time to stand up and call ********. If the penalty is a fine, I say take up a collection at the gate, and put me down for $100 per game. I am not a big cowbell ringer, nor do I enjoy someone ringing one in my ear all game long, but damnit this is an attack on all hings MSU. Cowbells are part of our university, and can not be taken away just because little ole MSU seems to be on the rise. The SEC has 12 institutions that are all supposedly equal in the eyes of the conference, and now is the time to demand that we be treated as such.

Good Post!

I had to google that before believing it. I still can't see Meg's voice coming out of that body.

Do you at least acknowledge that it's a legit gripe? I thought the SEC made 'Bama stop playing the elephant noise on 3rd downs, and South Carolina was stripped of something similar. I can't think of a single other BCS conference school whose fanbase uses artificial noisemakers to the point that State does, and it's a legitimate beef.

I know it's an emotional issue, but y'all are pulling out the black helicopter talk when the rest of the country considers it a tacky way of compensating for a lack of a loud crowd otherwise.
We have the 2nd or 3rd smallest stadium in the conference. Its not about attendance.

<div>Also, where have I changed the subject?</div><div>
</div><div>The original poster said that there was no difference between a bleacher seat and a cowbell. As asinine as that argument is on its face, I pointed out the specific difference between the two. Afterward, you argued that if you take the clanger out of a cowbell, it's no longer an artificial noisemaker. I agreed with your argument, and you called me a dumbass. Stellar logic, counselor. </div><div>
