No, we're still not the Jones's. Other teams could pour money into their stadiums if they wanted, but like any smart business, they won't do it until the demand is there for it. With the new ESPN money, some of them may do it anyway though. Who knows. What we DO have is tradition, and we really shouldn't mess with it.

This is exactly the thinking that's held us back for so many years... woe is us... we are MState... we shouldn't have nice things because we just aren't as good as the other schools...

What "tradition" is engie saying we should mess with? He's simply saying we need to set our expectations much higher than what we have right now. If there is a way to renovate the existing structure to make it one of the best in the SEC (therefore, the country), then I'm all for it... but I just don't see it. We have more baseball tradition than any team in the state... one of the most of any team in the SEC... and you are kidding yourself if you think the DNF structure is the center of all that.

And yes, in baseball, we are one of the Jones'.

You know as well as I do that won't happen. That's why I didn't bring that into the discussion.

The only people saying a renovation is all we need, have never sat their asses in the bleachers and gotten a crick in their neck trying to watch the game.

Nobody said a renovation is all we need. We are debating what is BEST. Best may not be all we need.

And I think everyone unanimously agrees that the bleachers need to go.

Good Lord, son. Do you realize what you just said? Your argument is finished.

Son? Make a viable argument, Granddad** You are starting to sound an awful lot like Goat to me.

Ok -- I was overlooking one thing -- it's full twice/yr now. Super Bulldog Weekend -- and a regional if we actually host. You don't actually want to argue that point -- although I presume you will at this point...

So, you want to make it better than the best? Got it**

Tell me again why we need a bigger stadium?

I would hope building it bigger would be inferred. To demolish our stadium and not build it back bigger would be even more non-sensible than the original thoughts. He wants to improve the sight lines so we can add chairbacks down the lines. So yes, he does want to make it bigger. You have to have sound reasons to spend this type of money on improvements.

Wrap your mind around this, and try again.

Look, dipshit, there is no reason to build our stadium "bigger." By "bigger," anyone with "half a brain" realizes that increasing capacity is inferred, not "increasing physical size." No one here is saying we need a bigger baseball stadium. People are saying we need a BETTER baseball stadium.

There is no reason to increase capacity, but if you think even our grandstands are up to par with the rest of the league (or can be up to par), you are mistaken. I'm all for rebuilding with the idea of making DNF the best in college baseball. Open concourses, more luxury boxes, club levels, tailgating areas, and better sightlines are all massive improvements over what we could ever do renovating what we have.

My mind is wrapped around it. I'm not the one screaming that we should settle for what we have because "other schools can, but don't" and that "we aren't one of the Jones'."

One major question I still have: are the grandstand seats actually sold out? I know a couple of years ago there was no waiting list; people weren't willing to pay the PSLs for the open seats.

Of course, the article is wrong (eye roll). Rivals (Kendall Rogers) had us in the top 5 best college baseball stadiums a few years back, ESPN the Maginze called us the best place in the country to watch a college baseball game, but hey, what do they know?

If an OM fan came on here and started the thread "OM's baseball stadium is better than DNF," the general tone of the thread would be that somewhere there is a village without its idiot.

To me, DNF is Tiger Stadium of college baseball. Have you ever really realized how ****** Tiger Stadium is? It's old as dirt, it smells like piss, it's almost all metal bleachers, it's uncomfortable. But, when it's full - it's magical, it's intimidating, it's loud as hell, and it's a great place to watch a college football game. Same with DNF.

Where does DNF hurt MSU baseball to justify spending the $30MM? Recruiting rankings? On the field results? Attendance? You still haven't put much of an answer to that.

Wow. What a thread. Somebody says that DNF is the best place to watch a game and it becomes Vatican City.** A&M must be up-in-arms that they are renovating Kyle Field. Let's wait and see how that turns out before we make a drastic decision.**

Further questions from this thread:
1. If they redecorate Polk-Dement Stadium, will it still be "The Dude"? If they renovate from scratch, will it still be "The Dude"? Will John Grisham - an MSU alum, btw - get angry because we tore down his box and give more money to UVA?**
2. If they redecorate Polk-Dement instead of a full-renovation, can they spend some of that money that they "saved" and expand the LFL? It is the reason for the Dude's success, right?
3. If they renovate Polk-Dement, will it ruin the game-day experience?
4. If they redecorate Polk-Dement, are they saying that we don't care about those people who are not in the grandstands? (Maybe the problem with the line of sight is that people should be watching the people having fun in the LFL and wish they were there, instead of on the game.**)

I guess you think Kendall Rogers and ESPN did all this bang up reporting from the cheap seats? Then you bash Swayze -- which Kendall consistently raves about being one of his 2 favorite college stadiums -- which means he holds it in higher regards than Dudy Noble? You want to use him as an example -- show the list -- because I KNOW he has us behind at least 3 in our own division based on what he's said on twitter. And espn's ACTUAL statement was ONLY about LFL and not Dudy Noble in general. But don't let the facts get in the way of your slant... Oh that's right -- everyone here thinks Kendall is a "village idiot" anyway**

Tiger Stadium was a great example--you know, since they "don't mess with it" and all. They aren't spending $100 mil on an expansion right now... Haven't spent $40 mil plus in the past decade in expansions and renovations... Didn't completely redo both endzone exteriors last year and build a brand new grand entrance plaza...Good to know they are resting on their laurels and not messin with it or anything**

I still haven't seen where you've shown me that Dudy Noble DOESN'T hurt us? See, two can play that game. We think we are elite. Either spend the money and prove that we are still the Jones's -- or let the next generation grow up thinking Ole Miss is an equal baseball school. Hilarious how spending $100 mil is gonna fix the football team -- but it's best to just deal with what we have in the sport we have the actual tradition, support, and money in.

Yes, Dudy Noble as it currently exists is KILLING attendance. No one that thinks there is any chance they end up in the bleachers are showing up to games. There is no dedicated student section. Both of these limit season ticket sales BIGTIME. Never mind the fact that there is no club level and no real way to expand skyboxes with decent sight lines.

If the Dudy Noble experience is so great these days, how come Swayze commonly out draws us by 1k+ when they haven't even seen Omaha? EXACTLY. Because the Dudy Noble experience sucks *** for a fairly significant percentage of people that actually want to go to games. These people quit coming. How do you otherwise explain the attendance discrepancy to me?
