The Bama Sunday highlight show is posted, or at least part of it is. It's really strange, from the potato chip eating to Coach Bryant's incoheren ramblings.

The defensive line had an awesome day. They really took it to Alabama physically. Friday and Cooks were awesome too. We were the better team that day. I was in school during that period. We had pep rallies every night on the drill field the next week. I don't think we would have beaten Millsaps if we had to play the following the week.
Seems like yesterday. I'll bet Donald Ray King could barely walk the next day...

I was at Millsaps that year. The Majors went 9-0, including beating Central Florida. Millsaps would've hung that next week.
Two things:
1. Ol' Emory says dadgum in the first or second sentence. Love it.
2. The fullback dive on 3rd and 4 was a routine call. Those were the days.

That season and the following were a couple of our best teams ever, each fully capable of winning every game. In '81 we laid an egg against Mizzou, but lost 3 others by a total of 8 points. That included the "Dick Pace game" that we won, but got royally shafted on, and the infamous 7-6 loss to USM in a game where we ran at will on them, but kept turning it over, and they passed mid-field just once the entire game when we fumbled a kick which they recovered and converted for their 7 points. That was perhaps USM'S best team ever. That season was the epitome of MSU's Indian Curse. Not sure, but I also think the Bama game was another of those where we got screwed by the refs in a 3-point loss.
The '81 team should have been. at worst, 11-1. After that, injuries just killed us & Bellard. John Bond was having trouble walking, much less running the option. That guy took one helluva beating playing for us. We never had a gutsier player, IMO.
I've always felt like we gave up a bit too soon on Bellard, given the injury situation.

It's always interesting to look back at how different it was back then. 1980-1981 we played 3 games in Starkville total. Played 10 games in Jackson. We didn't play Alabama in Starkville one time between 1963 and 1985. Didn't play Auburn in Starkville from 1954 to 1978, and a number of our "home" games were in Birmingham. LSU didn't play in Starkville from 1923 until 1982! From 1926 until 1974 we played 38 out of 42 games in Baton Rouge, 4 in Jackson.
