I don't think Sam Frost would start at Delta Academy... Florida just ran "West Memphis" on us and it worked. It is a play that only works in Little League baseball, men on 1st and 3rd, the man on 1st steals and goes halfway to second and stops, then the man on 3rd immediately takes off towards the plate. Every little league team in the country runs this play, and apparently teams face us in the SEC have picked up on the trend as well.

screwed that up.

All we had to do it is get that runner at 2nd. There were 2 outs and the guy didn't leave 3rd until after our SS had the ball. We screwed that play up from top to bottom.

All they had to do was make one more throw and get the runner at second out. The play was just totally bungled.

It was defensed perfectly until "FireFlies" Frost decided to act like he had never been involved in a rundown before. It is just frustrating that our baseball program has fallen to the level where a juvenile play like this would be effective against us. This was literally a "little league" baseball play, that Florida felt confident enough to run against us. Lord have mercy, it has been a long and painful drop down the College Baseball standings.

a number of years ago. It doesn't appear that Cohen has been able to reel it back in either. This is what concerns me more than anything else. I understand that the talent level is not up to par with the rest of the conference, but damn, can we not at least look like we can handle the basics?

I was open minded about him at first, but if he is going to struggle to hit .200 and not play incredible defense Cohen needs to give someone else a chance.

Fundamentals were there with Polk, no way they couldnt be practiced plays like that literally an hour a day at practice I highly doubt that Cohen practices these plays at all, not that there is anything wrong with that. The problem with Polks last few years was talent not lack of fundamentals. Also Frost is not good, there are other options for the infield,I really dont remember Powers being that god awful at third base, but I guess he was since he was moved to first.</p>

Don't be surprised if he doesn't start next year with Chase Luwallen- yes he has qualified and will be at MSU- and Adam Frazier coming in next year. Not to mention Rawdow will be healthy.

It's embarassing to me that we have upperclassmen that aren't as good defensively as a walk-on. Our fundamentals weren't good during the Polk II regime either.

When Butler did play second, he was horrible. Vickerson could play second, but we have him at third because neither Jet nor Russ Sneed can handle playing third, unless you just want to put up with at least one error a game from third. Conner Powers was bad at third as well, and if you move him from first to third, you are weakening yourself even more because you have to put Sneed at first in all likelihood.

Frost sucks, but unfortunately, we have to have him out there because if we don't, we're going back to 4-5 errors a game. The one thing Sam can do is play defense. Sure, he made a stupid play and he can't hit, but sitting him down would be a bad mistake.

The real problem is we have too many players that can only do one or two things well. We either have guys that can hit- Sneed, Duffy, Jet, and Adkins but are horrible defensively or guys that can field but can't hit- Ogden, Frost, Shepherd, Thigpen- and then you have Vickerson who has no clue what the strike zone is, Ryan Collins who hasn't been particularly great at any thing, Conner Powers who is trying to carry the team by himself, and doing a good job of it, or at least as good as one could be expected, and then a bunch of freshmen pitchers. That's how you build a winner! (Sarcasm)

that you might as well accept the fact that we probably won't be very good next year either. Most of our position players of the future will be freshmen and won't be ready. Maybe the following year, we will be competitive. I hope. It is going to take a little longer than everyone thought, myself included.

but I think you are right.

By 2008, we ran out of Ed Easley's, Mitch Moreland's, and Jeffrey Rea's that could pick up the slack for everyone else.

It is very possible that we start a freshmen 2B, SS, and CF and maybe more depending on how the freshmen perform based on the guys that we have signed right now. If they can outhit guys like Frost, Ogden, and play adequate defense, they will start. Depending on how many of them start, it could be like 1995 all over again. Which I would actually take right now.

I think that's why Cohen went with so many JUCO's was to try to provide a buffer between this year and next years class so that we will at least have some maturity between classes.

I also think Cohen needs to actually focus more on corner guys than anything else right now including pitching. (When was the last time we could say that?) This team kind of reminds me of the Giants a couple of years ago post Barry Bonds. Good young pitching with very little offense and suspect defense at some positions. But, we need to focus a little bit less on pitching unless Deshun Dixon is actually serious about going to college and try to get some guys like Jackson Posey and maybe a guy like Hunter Renfroe from Copiah Academy.
