All time great. I was looking for the SNL Star Wars Auditions and could not find them in a quick search. Great stuff, especially Kevin Spacey's stuff (Walken, Matthau, Jack Lemon).

Pretty sure this is going to smash all 1st weekend box office records... Not that anybody really cares about that. Us fanboys just want to see a return of the heart and soul of the original trilogy. The less pandering to children, the better. You don't need to make a movie that panders to children popular with children. I took my 8 year old son to see "The Martian" last week and he absolutely loved it.

Agreed.

You have to show your kids Episode 1. Otherwise how would they know that too could become narcissistic, paranoid, child-killers?

This is some speculation on my part but after watching that trailer and the focus it puts on Boyega, Ridley, and Driver's characters the more I'm convinced that all three are Force users. Driver's Ren is obvious and Boyega's too but Ridley is being set up as the "new Luke" of these films. I won't be shocked if Ridley and Ren are both Skywalker/Solo's who were split up the way Luke and Leia were to hide them from some greater threat. Ren obviously is obsessed with Vader (a "fanboy" if you will) and his "legacy". Which honestly we don't know what that means. Anakin was the one who brought balance to the Force and the first six movies are basically the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker.

Luke, after Empire, was focused on "redeeming" or "saving" his father Anakin. Maybe Ren's purpose is "redeeming" or "saving" Darth Vader? Maybe the First Order blames Vader for the destruction of the Empire and Ren's goal (whereas Luke saw only his father, Ren sees Darth Vader) is to restore Vader to a position of reverence. Which makes Ren an Anti-Luke in a way.

I don't know. Just fanboy speculation myself.

For anyone that may not have seen any of the movies but wants to watch them then I suggest this order - 4,5,6,1,2,3. But there is a strong argument to watch them in this order - 4,5,2,3,6. Skip 1 altogether. Here is a good blog that sums that up but if you haven't seen them then don't click as there are spoilers.

Love this. Trying to get my wife to watch these, and I had to trade Disney movies for Star Wars. So for every episode I make her watch, I'm stuck with Aladdin or Little Mermaid. Plus, Episode I sucked. The rationale in that post swayed me.

Kylo Ren is Darth Vader's grandson or nah?

That would be an obvious conclusion maybe too obvious. But it's Abrams we're talking about here...everyone and their mother knew it was Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness despite the denials.

Wouldn't shock me if it played out that Rey and Ren are both Skywalker descendants. Abrams loves to invoke nostalgia, ideas of fate, etc. and I think this film is designed specifically for that from both a story perspective and a marketing one.

I know it's some twist but I hope it's nothing lazy but it very well could be Luke's son and the ages would probably line up.

It looks badass though. Anxious to see Solo/Chewie.

I was meaning an actual cloning of Anakin/Vader or some other force users.
Maybe it's Samuel Jackson clone under the helm.

Driver looks more like a Leia/Han coupling to me. I think maybe it's too obvious though. Sometimes I think I just like the theory that Ren's an obsessed fanboy.

I enjoy this theory as well but hopefully there will be some explanation on how that came to be,

According to the new canonicity of the recent post-RotJ novels and comics....

Spoiler Space

The "precursors" of the Knights of Ren were hunting down Vader artifacts including his lightsaber.

The last lines of the trailer are to the fans. It's saying look we were all burned by the prequels but this like the old Star Wars you grew up with. Let it in!

The thing is, Lucas could have taken the general story concept but handed the dialogue off to someone else. That was never his strong suit and it is no coincidence that the most critically acclaimed installment was not directed by him.

Really going out a limb here by saying the 3 people using lightsabers are also force users?

Well, we do know that since Vader killed all the Jedi, and in episode IV, we see Vader strangle Admiral Motti with the force. "Lack of faith disturbing."

Since the Jedi are all gone, probably relates to Ridley asking Solo if the stories are all true.

I am of the opinion that they are essentially making the same movie as the original trilogy, just with updated characters. Cant mess it up.

Vader = Ren
Luke/Leia= Boyega and Ridley (adding in the storm trooper addition, which we see Luke in IV)
Luke=Yoda/Ben Kenobi

Same plot lines will happen. Not really going out a limb here either.

But who knows.

The crashed Imperial Cruiser is a thing of beauty.

Yea, maybe. Han did use the lightsaber to cut open the tauntaun on Hoth, and General Greivious in one of the crap prequels. So it could be that Boyega is using a light saber.

I actually think that scene is closer to Empire on Dagobah, were Luke goes into the cave and sees Vader. In so much that its not real. Either training simulation, or something. But who knows.

Doesn't really mean anything, but it's always been said that in the early drafts of the original movie, lightsabers were waaaaay more common than they ended up being in the end. As in, stormtroopers were all armed with them. There's Ralph McQuarrie concept art to back that up. It could be as simple as Finn having received some rudimentary training in their use because he was a stormtrooper.

When all is said and done, I expect Rey to be the one with the force abilities.

I didn't know that, but I've heard stories about Boba Fett using a saber. I've read some spoilers, as in some of the characters are an amalgamation from books and cartoon.but who knows.
As I said, I think the new one will mirror IV

There is some "slight of hand" going on in that trailer.

first off, As the voice over starts in this shot I'm pretty sure that's Captain Phasma standing on the bridge

And I'm not so sure if Kylo is holding that Vader helmet. Just because it's all in that little sequence doesn't mean it's connected.

Very well could be from Max Von Sydow's character.

Exactly! There's still some key figures out there that we haven't really seen yet. Andy Serkis and Max are 2 that definitely come to mind. IMDB even has people listed without their cast name. That guy who played one of the Ewoks is on there but his character name is missing.

If you're referring to Warwick Davis, I'm guessing he's probably going to be in just cameo type role, like Simon Pegg. I don't think their characters are going to be integral to the plot.
