My business is open on the 5th, this Friday. Cochise, however, has opted out of that ridiculous notion.

As a former business owner I can assure you that being open this Friday will not (with a few exceptions) make you money. Might as well shut it down.

Nissan would do a two week shut down twice a year, Christmas and the 4th of July. For production employees that means you burned all your vacation time. For Engineering/Maintenance employees (me) that means you make OT. If you worked a day designated as a holiday (the actual 4th itself) you got double time plus 8 hours holiday pay.
I may have to go buy another watermelon or 2, but other than that I'm subsisting on tomato sammiches and meat from the smoker this week.
I'm off this entire week. We're at the airport now. Flying to Chicago.
I plan on doing my part and shutting down as early as possible on Wednesday.

We used to get 2 days paid for the 4th and I'd usually burn 3 more for the whole week off. Now that I'm retired, I'll soak up the A/C and celebrate the 4th with a 5th.

Paid holiday time on the 4th and the 5th, compressed Monday on the 8th. Noon release tomorrow. 5.5 days off. Happy Independence Day!
