Strymon orbit dbucket flanger.

Analogman juicer(orange squeezer "clone").

I swapped out the power tubes in my Marshall DSL40C with some JJ EL34's due to some really bad crackling and popping noises I was getting. Changing them were pretty easy and also biasing the tubes wasn't difficult either. I have the four pre-amp tubes on the way and I'm going to go ahead and replace them. For now though, I can definitely tell a difference between whatever tubes Marshall installed at the factory and the new ones. To me it sounds better than it did originally. Thinking about switching out the speaker with a Celestion Vintage 30.

Been playing with a band again the last couple months, and bought my first piece of gear in quite sometime a few weeks ago. I've always been a "tube snob" when it comes to amps, but so far, this thing has impressed the hell out of me. So much, that I'm probably going to sell my TC Electronic G system and maybe an amp or two.

That's just way too many options for me. I would be overwhelmed with choices and would more than likely not even get the full use out of that pedal.

I understand 100%. I've only scratched the surface with it. Luckily, I have a couple local guys that made the switch to Headrush sometime back, gig with them all the time, etc., that I can lean on for help. The touch screen really simplifies it quite a bit.

Love the Vintage 30... more upper mid content... as a lead p!ayer it cuts thru the live mix better than any speaker Ive ever played.

Just glad to see this thread getting bumped. 2021 is almost upon us. I personally need to get a group together or get with one and get something going this year. tired of being musically unfulfilled.

Never played a guitar with P90's so I can't help you there. I'm still wanting a new axe and congress is gonna help me get it. On another note, I did put the Vintage 30 in my amp and man you can really hear the difference. It sounds great and I didn't have to drop it off anywhere. P19978 was right about the upper mid content too.

I have a Gibson LP 54 Historic reissue w/ p90s.

Compared to other single coil gits like Teles and Strats... it pushes the front end of the amp more. This particular git is like a Tele on steroids.

Best tonal comparison I can give is p90s sound like a Tele with a clean boost pedal. If you like that sound I suspect youll enjoy a LP w/p90s.

Super duper bombshell: Gibson just bot Mesa Boogie.

As someone who owns and loves both... I have mixed feelings about this... one of Mesa's hallmarks was service/access to REALLY knowledgeable folks... which is not feasible to a bigger company like Gibson.

Plus... are we now going to get Asian made Mesa's? No thanks... although I guess all my USA made Mesa stuff will go up in value.

Listed my mid-90's Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier for sale a couple weeks and have several interested buyers. Might should rethink that.

-in the market for a 4 string electric bass guitar nice lil combo amp for studio.

-my inclination is to buy a USA made JB or PB. That said, Japanese/Mexican is an option. And I've read some good stuff about Korean made stuff as well.

Please advise.

The MIA stuff will always hold its value; MIM can be good quality, but resale suffers. I'd buy used MIA.

Another alternative: a MIJ Fender Geddy Lee JB... would recommend if you like thin necks... priced right IMO.

You can never go wrong with a P or J. Classic tones that work with everything and there are a TON of them out there on the used market.

Resale holds pretty steady on all price levels if you buy used. It just depends on how much you want to spend.

For me bass is just for fun or if the bass player cant make it so I didn't want to put of money in it. I actually bought a Squier Precision Standard series (discontinued). Replaced the bridge and the pickups and its killer.

-as it happens I stumbled upon the aforementioned CIJ geddy lee jazz bass w/ case locally...at $650. Now for the amp...
Thats a great price... I assume its black (the sunburst is usually a little more expensive because theyre rare).

Youll never lose money if you resell it.

Yeah, you definitely got a killer deal there. The narrower Jazz neck will be easier to play.

Every CIJ Fender I've played has been excellent. I had a 50s CIJ reissue strat back in the late 90s that I wish I hadnt traded away.

-yep, it is black w/ white pickguard. Will be grabbing a tortoise shell guard to make it "mine". Hard to beat the black/tortoise combo, imo.

-one scratch on the back, tiny bit of buckle rash...overall I'm very pleased.

-there was a cij 72 tele deluxe (I think that's the model9 reissue that had upgraded "creamery" pups on reverb a while back...under a grand. Don't need but still wish I'd snagged it.

The new Squier Affinity series Teles have string-thru body (instead of being top-loaders) and have a comfort cut in the body. $250.

Ordered one in butterscotch. And some Vortex pickups. And a 4-way switch. And some CTS pots...

It is amazing how nice of a guitar one can buy for $250 nowadays. I'm old enough to remember the cheap 70's stuff like Hondo... which would leave enough fret sticking out on the fretboard to cut your hand.

Having said that, and I think I've mentioned this before in this thread, I HIGHLY recommend buying parts (used) off Ebay, Reverb, and various sites and building your own bolt on neck guitars (set neck guitars like Gibson require a whole different level of expertise... and tools).

I built 2 Teles and a Strat last year, and all 3 are in my gig rotation. The paint jobs (nitro) are mediocre (rattle cans "spit", and I'm not patient enough to go back and sand and respray lol)... but the sound/play quality on all 3 are as good as anything I've ever played. Plus, if you're into the "aged" or "relic'd" look, you can relic right over your mistakes and no one will ever know lol.

I don't think I spent over $600 on any of them... and the neck profiles/colors/pickups/etc are all EXACTLY what i want.

Plenty of YT vids to help... it's not as hard as you think... Happy Hunting!

Ran out of time yesterday...

I've built a couple partscasters, but I much prefer just upgrading cheap guitars b/c they tend to hold more resale value and I rarely keep anything for very long before selling it and starting over.

I'm fairly certain I enjoy tinkering with guitars far more than I do playing them. I've amassed quite the luthier's tool collection and Dave Reaume and Sam Deeks taught me everything I know about how to work on them.

I picked up a 2013 MIM strat for $350 that I 'rebuilt' this summer. Satin finish on a MIM. Had to have it. It got new pots/switch and some Tex-Mex p/us (modern wiring/bridge tone control) with parchment plates and aged white knobs and p/u covers, a Tusq nut, a fret level and recrowning job and a full-float setup. I do all the work, so it came in well under $500, and I still won't get that much back out of it.

I learned that I'm far too heavy handed to palm mute a free-floating strat (or any floating trem bridge system). In fact, I learned that I'd have to change my style completely to properly play a properly setup tremelo w/o constantly knocking it out of tune. Do digging in here. I never really understood why some guys claim to not be able to play a strat until I learned to set one up properly. It sure is pretty hanging on the wall, though.

Yeah... resale on a partscaster is nil... good point.

I've had 2 floating bridge gits in my life and had the same problem as I normally play Les Pauls; palm muting on a floater is a delicate technique.

The Strat I built last year is a hardtail; sounds fantastic (seems to have more sustain than a floater)... problem solved.

That color (I think its Sonic Blue) is very close to my color (Daphne Blue).

Other than the fretboard (rosewood for me) and pup configuration (I have EMG actives in the 3 way trad Strat setup: they're FANTASTIC!... sustain for days!)... that git looks almost exactly like mine (hardtail string thru as well).
