While the media has been focused on the rival camps in the Republican party, there is far more divisions in the Dem party that will only exacerbate itself over time. The Dem party is composed of many constituencies that will splinter. The minority camps are composed primarily of African-Americans, Latinos, Asians and Arabs. They have similar interests but differ in some key areas like education and on social issues. Asians are being increasingly discriminated against in college admissions, for example. Arabs and Latinos are generally pro family and are against abortion, gay marriage, etc.
The high energy portion of the Dem party is the emerging socialist wing. Obama, Warren and Sanders are the current leaders of this camp. It is comprised of a large African American population as well as immigrants (both legal and illegal). Most of our immigrants come from countries with very large, controlling central governments. Hillary and Biden will race to the left to secure this groups affection.
The moderate center-left camp (Bill Clinton's old crew) is diminishing in power and influence. They are social liberals and fiscal moderates. Another camp is the Blue Dog camp which is virtually disappearing. This camp which includes the likes of Jim Webb still believe in a strong military and are moderates both socially and fiscally. I'd put Manchin in this camp.
When you look at the big money behind the Dems, the splits become even more dramatic. Silicon Valley is socially liberal but fiscally conservative to moderate. Increasing socialist tendencies within the party scare them. Wall Street is another big spender. They hate Warren. Unions are becoming worried. Immigrants take jobs and lower wages. The Dems focus on green energy is killing union jobs. Keystone is supported by unions and opposed by the greens. Hollywood is both fiscally and socially liberal and will continue to be the major influence on the party.
These groups will continue to splinter, imo. Both parties have issues and we may be at the beginning of a national revolution with more parties being created. Should be interesting.
