It is actually a requiem to the genre. I am very impressed with the effort. It moves very slow and has all the hallmarks of a cliche gangster movie but is subtle and pretty freaking awesome. Watch it.

Well, that’s precisely what I want.
Plus it’s ham-handedly executed for your enjoyment. It’s as if Chuck Lorrie was asked to make a mobster movie. Babies crying, church bells, baptisms, trite/forced and stale storytelling techniques.

if you like this you’re an idiot.

Obvious cash grab.

I’m gonna like it extra hard now, just to spite you.

But i was curious how a Scorsese gangster flick went straight to Netflix??? This is sad end to a legendary era.

This was my favorite scene.

Keep in mind, Robert DeNiro is playing an intimidating guy in like his thirties and that's supposed to be his daughter, not great grand daughter.

That is pathetic. Looks like he has trouble moving to be honest. Sad to see imo.

the studios wouldn't give him 300 million and final cut. He did the same thing with Wolf Of Street. Except instead of Netflix giving all the money on Wolf it was funded by foreign billionaires. I'll be honest, I have not seen Irishmen yet, but I don't have high hopes. Wolf was good but massively over indulgent in a lot of spots. Dicaprio was there to save it, De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci haven't had it in a long time.

I'm excited to see it, but at the same time, it's behind like 5 or 6 other things.

Deniro and Pesci don't do much for me these days. I still love Pacino. I just like his monologues better. What I liked about The Departed was that is was much fresher actors. Damon, DiCaprio, Walberg.

De Niro was terrible. The anti-ageing tech didn't work. He still moved and sounded like a 76 year old man. The scenes when he was being a tough guy were just not believable at all. They should have used a younger actor for the early part of the movie and let De Niro do the middle aged and old man parts. Al Pacino was slightly better in his role as Hoffa.

The part where he beats up the shop owner was laughably bad.

Just what the world was crying out for, another Scorcese movie about the mob with Pacino and DeNiro, can't wait to miss it.

At 3+ hours I doubt I will watch it unless I am hearing that it's amazing, which I'm not.

Don't go by the resident Paddock entertainment connoisseurs who are impossible to please.

The Irishman has an 8.3 rating on IMDB. For comparison, Shawshank is the highest rated movie ever on IMDB at 9.3.

I am an hour in. I tend to agree with the above posters...very slow. I think I was just anticipating a Casino type film. Definitely going to finish it though.

What if I think The Godfather and Casino are boring? I like Gangs Of New York and The Departed a lot though. Which group would you bucket this movie in?

I'd say it's pretty Casino-ish due to the fact that it's basically a decades-long story narrated from the point of view of DeNiro's character.

More action than the Godfather. Not quite as much as The Departed.

You'll know in 30 mins if you're going to like it or not. I'm halfway through, and I like it. Not as good as Goodfellas and not as entertaining as Wolf of Wall Street, but good. Then again, I like all the movies you mentioned.

It's about the same length as Casino.

It was OK. I don't think he slid through the pearly gates with that sketchy final confession though.
