This is not a bash Snead thread, I personally think he's an outstanding QB and Nutt/Austin have set him up to be successful. The other thing is that he must be smart.. or his parents... because he realized to get out.. and while being behind the Heisman runner up is an extreme example, they were both young and I am sure that Mack Brown did his best to convince him he would have his "chances".

He should be used as as example. I have no idea where he was ranked in HS (and doesn't matter) but have been told it was fairly high (top 20 HS qbs or something)... We've seen so many top 25 QBs (or even top 50) go to sit the bench at big schools while top 15 qbs are coming in every year pushing them down the depth chart. Isn't going 8-4 at a school like Ole Miss better than sitting all year 3rd string at Florida, Georgia, etc. just because you have a better chance at a BCS game. Even if the reality is a Peach Bowl these guys have the chance to be icons at their schools. Snead went from probably 90% of the students at Texas not knowing his name to probably being the most popular person at Ole Miss. This could happen at MSU as well... I realize most coaches won't release a player within the SEC so that would make it a challenge.

I am not talking about anybody specific, just the fact that not as many QBs transfer as you would think..

year. Remember, Snead played some as a freshman too. Plus, McCoy hurt his shoulder, and had a rough year last year. There is a good chance Snead would have started at least some of the games last year. Who knows what something like that would have done to McCoy.

But for what you say, no better example than Matt Cassell. Never started a game in college. He could have transferred and been a hero at a school not named USC. And he probably would have been a higher NFL draft pick.

I'd rather be 3rd string at Texas that to have to play for Ole Miss. Preppy snothead pricks! I bet Snead hates it there.

john chiles has hot a lot of comparisons to vince young. snead realized he wouldn't touch the field after freshman year when mack brown made up his mind on colt. as soon as he figured that out he transferred. snead is good and i wish we had him, im just stating facts

Snead transferred around Christmas of 2006 and the main reason in this was that he was afraid of a kid that Texas had committed at WR who was two months away from even signing with Texas? Come on. That guy is playing running back now I think.

he played qb in high school and still plays some mop up duties for colt. he is known for his speed and elusiveness, but he has never been listed as a rb either.

Chiles is a QB, but he's athletic, so he played some WR this year. He isn't the reason Snead transferred, b/c he wasn't even there at the time, much less ahead of Snead.
And oh yeah, McCoy's "bad year" last year included 3,800 total yards and 26 total touchdowns on a team that averaged 477 yards per game and went 10-3 (with upset losses to K State and TX A&M).
That year would give him the most total yards in OM or MSU history I believe

was the player of the year in the largest classification of football in TX... He was also one of the top 5-10 qb's in the nation his senior year. He was UT's top QB recruit. So yes, everyone at UT knew who he was well before he got to UT. Snead graduated early so he could compete for the starting job in the spring. At the end of spring, he and McCoy were considered tied for the starters job. The main reason McCoy started in the fall is because coach Brown felt that since McCoy had redshirted and been in the system for a full year, they would start the first couple of games with him, expecting Snead to take over 3-4 games into the season. As it turned out, McCoy surpassed all expectations. Snead felt like even though he did play some as a true frosh.... with the kind of year that Colt had, there was no way in all fairness that UT could not continue starting and playing McCoy for the next three years.

Snead and his family have said on several occassions that they love the situation for Jevan at Ole Miss and that Jevan fits in very well with the student body, team, etc.. and that he really likes it their a lot.

Don't know her name(google), but she's quite hot. She played one of John Ritter's (RIP) daughters in his last show before he took a dirt nap. She's on some sitcom that nobody watches on CBS.

So you're saying that we'd have sucked if O hadn't landed Snead, mainly because that was the only QB O landed. It's not often that you walk into a situation where you only have one scholarship QB on campus. Keep in mind that our back up this year was playing TE when Nutt arrived on campus.

before you respond. The point was that a kid that was committed and not signed, who was still in highschool when Snead decided to transfer was obviously not the reason that he decided that. On Scout the signing class page listed him as a WR. I don't care what he plays now either as it didn't affect Snead's decision.

I was just going by that which is how he was categorized when Snead decided to transfer. Here's a 2006 article rating the top five WRs in the nation (this is Chiles feature in the article) So yeah again before you post a response like a jackass why don't you try and figure out what the point of the post was.

John Chiles is the most electrifying recruit from the Lone Star State this season. Chiles plays quarterback and wide receiver for his team but certainly projects as a receiver in Austin. He has good size and speed but what sets Chiles apart is his quickness, elusiveness, balance and vision. In other words, he is very dangerous with the ball in his hands because of his play making abilities. Chiles can start and stop on a dime, can change directions quickly, and has a burst or extra gear when he needs it. He pass receiving skills are good too. Chiles is extraordinary in the air and shows concentration and body control. I mean he will make a hard catch look easy.

Chiles racked up 491 yards rushing and nine touchdowns. as a junior. He also had 700 yards receiving for eight touchdowns. He certainly has the athleticism to play as a true freshman, even at a school like Texas. This kid is that good.
