whether it begins in next week or 52 weeks from then, the key word in the job search should be "edge."

As in, what will you bring to the table that will give you the "edge" over teams with more talent, better facilities, more money, more history, etc.

We cannot go toe to toe with big boys and should leave that pipe dream behind. We will not the B1G east with defense and special teams the way we best g-rob led Syracuse or Norfolk state. Heck, we couldn't even win the big east that way!!

We will need variety, having an extra blocker (e.g. a running quarterback to account for), running super uptempo, etc. Schiano always preached execution - but execution won't work when they go 8 deep on the DL with 4 and 5 stars.

"Edge" should be the factor in determining the next head coach.

Until Rutgers starts winning championships in other sports (hopefully Women's soccer this year) -- it would be nice if people would stop using "we couldn't even win the Big East" as their examples.

Seriously, Rutgers NEVER wins championships. To make it look as though the football team should have been the one sport to break through is ridiculous imo. The Big East was probably no worse than the 6th best conference in any year and was top 4 in some years. It was not the piece of cake people make it out to be.

The Big East was much better than people gave it credit for, but for the OP's purposes it was an okay usage. Once Miami left the Big East there wasn't a team that recruited at such a high level that you were just not going to be able to beat their athletes straight up.

In the B1G, Rutgers playing a pro style will be starting each season with 3 losses (Mich, OSU, PSU) because we will not be able to win in the trenches.

Understand "Edge" may not mean "Big Name". I agree with you, but if we get a hot shot coordinator that noone has heard of people are going to jump off bridges.

"Visionary" - someone who can see through all of the mess, the turmoil, the present inadequacies & lay out and execute a comprehensive multi-layered plan of action that spans from recruiting to training to preparation to game planning to brilliant game day strategy - and has enough charisma & presence that all the major and minor players in the media instinctively approach him with a modicum of respect.
