My Dad always told me to never to pick a fight, but make damn sureyou defend yourself if someone comes after you.Always said he would back me if I was defending myself. I got into one fight as a kid thata guypicked with me, beat him up, andwe bothgot suspended. My Dad blessed out the principal after that. I just don't understand punishing a kid for defending himself. Doesn't send a good message.

I don't care what the "punishment" or policy is at school, if someone hits my son he'd better hit back. Whether he gives or receives an *** beating doesn't matter, but he better fight back. And if I find out he didn't fight back he'll be in more trouble at home than he would have at school. It is 17'n ridiculous that the kid got suspended for defending himself.

I got suspended in school for fighting back, complete ********. I wasn't, nor will my son be a good little victim.

There have to be a half a dozen people or more who have posted that they were picked on but later beat the kid up, most of them because their dad told them to do so. No one, not a one, ever lost a fight. Amazing!!

Not to mention my principal and coach my whole life. I feel the same way about this kind of BS. He had a good method of dealing with fights in school though. Because of school regulations, handbooks, school board, and bat **** crazy parents you have to punish both kids. It is what it is, but most of the time if he knew the kid who was defending himself was a good kid then he barely got anything i.e. (after school suspension or one day of ISS) Hell he would have beat my *** had I not fought back, he had an utter disdain for bullies and there were a couple of times when he let fights go a little longer because the a**hole was taking the beat down.

Mom used to tell me stories before I was born about when he was the Principal at Bay Springs high school. One time he paid my brother 20.00 after he got sent to the office for kicking a bullies ***. If they started a fight he stopped it and took them around the gym and they put on boxing gloves and went at it til they couldn't stand anymore. Can't do that these days but it sure would cut out some of this BS.

Power to the fat kid.

Fortunately, I knew it wouldn't be an issue because I was going to be going to [name redacted private school] the next year. And this wasn't happening at some rough public school. It was a pretty respectable public school in [redacted] county.<div>
</div><div>The teachers and principals really need to learn about the psychology of bullying and be active if they want to have the bullying situations resolved in ways other than fights. And I imagine that while many parents complain about individual bullying situations, if you were to ask them to give the administration the power to realistically deal with bullies, they wouldn't go for it.</div>
