The bad recruiting the last 2 years is showing glaringly the last 8 games. Love Pike and he’s our guy, but we need to clean out the bench and start recruiting guys who can contribute
I love Pike, but he deserves all of the blame, His amateur time endgame coaching against Minnesota and his refusal to get Spenser open is why we're now in the NIT and NOT in the NCAA. What a PATHETIC coaching job by him down the stretch without Mag. Just pathetic!

You can't really say it's recruiting completely. When you identify a player, you think the player might develop into A or B when you watch them but if he develop into something that you already have or that you didn't envisioned him becoming, it will leave holes in your roster.

This year, Mag developed into an very important cog into everything we do as a complementary post player to Cliff in what we do offensively and defensively. Once Mag went down, Cliff became easier to defend as the only option in the post to open up the perimeter and our perimeter became very one dimensional and easier to defend.. I don't know if Pike envisioned someone on the roster to be a similar player to Mag and never got there or he missed on that player he wanted, and we probably won't know.

Once Mag went down, we had no one on the bench who could be slotted into the lineup, so it fell on the other 6 primary guys to absorb those minutes and increase their productivity. What was a thin margin of error became nonexistent.

"You can't fit a square peg into a round hole."

We've tried to fit a few square pegs to fill Mag's minutes to the tune of a 2-6 record.

Dean/Oskar/Woolf/Hyatt/Caleb/Paul are the square pegs tryIng to fill the round hole that Mag was for this team's success.

it's not just recruiting. It's his in game coaching too.. killing momentum in every game they start out playing well. Stubbornly playing zone when we're getting killed by the 3. Subbing multiple guys leaving us with nobody to score. It's been REALLY bad

I don't blame him for Paul going AWOL, but to keep playing when he's our biggest liability is worthy of criticism.

The two major aspects of coaching at the collge level are recruiting and player development.Pikiell has done a terrific job in building a program via low level recruits and getting them to over achieve. What has happened ,however,is that opponents have watched the game tapes and learned that the Rutgers offensive options were limited .In prior years it meant stopping Baker and Harper. This season it meant stopping Cam and Cliff. The rest of the roster were considered complemenary type players who were expected to play meaningful roles such as MAG.What complicated this seasons team was the disappointing offense from Paul and Caleb. They played over thirty minutes a game and scored less than ten points combined in too many games. The end result has been long scoring droughts with no go to scorer to stop the bleeding.
