From Annondale to Country Club of Jackson. I'm looking at it from a spectator point of view and my first thought is this is a terrible move. An I wrong in that? Heard it on OOB by the way

The Sanderson, or whatever it's called now?

If that is the case that is terrible...unless, it's setting it up for an eventual move to Reunion. I heard it rumored last year that they wanted it there.

It's been years since I've played the course.

Can't really remember the layout or what the space for crowds is like, but my first thought was what a nightmare it's going to be getting people in and out.

Agree this is a terrible move. Wonder why they're doing this. I don't understand how this could set up a future move to Reunion. Why not just move it straight to Reunion?

No clue, just speculation on my part. Mainly guessing it because of the rumor I spoke of and that could be the only possible positive that could come out of this.

Being that Reunion doesn't even have a clubhouse still, I'd be surprised it's moving out there anytime soon.

Oh - it's definitely going to be a cluster. I was just saying the course has been redone.

My issue is not the course. It's the way it affects me as a spectator. Parking, viewing, etc... CCOJ seems like a terrible move for those factors
As a spectator, once you get in, the experience will be much better. It is a compact layout with holes side by side, which allows for many vantage points that allow you to watch action on multiple holes at once. The logistics of getting in and out will be a challenge, but with Madison's growth, it had become more challenging out there as well

Parking is going to be a nightmare, just wait until a spectator ruts somebody's front yard. I've done business w/ CCJxn in the past, biggest bunch of prick members I've ever dealt w/. They will have to have major shuttle network set up

I hope you are right because this has been a really fun event for even casual golf fans. On OOB he gave multiple reasons why this is a good move but I'm looking at it solely as a spectator (which is selfish to a degree).

I completely disagree. There will no room for spectators and certainly no room for any of the hospitality tents and designated bleacher style viewing areas. Its going to be a complete cluster 17 to get there, park, and get it. And let's be honest, the area surrounding the CC aint exactly a real desirable area of the city either...

I was a part of the tournament the past two summers. Here are my thoughts on the issues going on. The tournament has been taken over by new ownership this year. In the years past an event management company out of birmingham ran the tourney, this year the board took over and hired all new employees. The reason reunion could not be used is the groundscrew out there is not big enough of handling such a tall task is what i was told. During the tournament reunion would come out and help the annandale crew because they needed all the hands they could get because it rained so much. My opinion of why it is moving is the new people running it are wanting to do all this stuff a different way and annandale is saying no its always been done this way and we aren't changing it. That is just my opinion of a scenario of what could have happened and the only one I can think of because the two sides have different opinions of what the tourney should be.

My gut feeling was that Annandale must have been balking at something or just tired of putting up with everything the tournament entails. I can't think of any reason to have the tournament at CCJ if Annandale is an option.

You can literally walk from the first tee to the furthest vantage point in 900-950 yards, and the width of the viewing area is about 600 yards

Makes perfect sense after reading Rick's article. CCJ decided they wanted the tournament, so some big money members said they'd write some big checks if the tournament was moved from Annandale to CCJ.

I don't know about the rest but crew size has nothing to do with it....

For every tour event there are a great number of volunteers as well as paid temps on a tournament crew. A crew can double or triple in size for a tour event. A course needs extra help event when it host Tour Qualifying School. The main reason that Reunion is not being used is it has no clubhouse. The rest of the infrastructure at Reunion is head and shoulders above any other course in the Jackson area, it is better suited to host an event the CCJ or Annadale on that fact alone. The pros will wear CCJ out.

Either the Annandale members got tired of it or the JCC coughed up some major cash to get it.
I'll see what Cliff and the other staff at Annandale say next time I am out there.

They will have to run shuttles from Northpark mall and other places.
There is a natural amphitheater for hole 9 and 18 at the JCC.
I would expect some really low scores to be shot at the JCC this fall, maybe a 58 or 59.

Annandales Course rating is 75.4, CCJ is 75.2. CCJ plays almost 200 yards longer as well. The course will hold up at least as well as Annandale and, like Annandale (and virtually everywhere else), the scoring will be significantly influenced by the weather.

And I think Annandale's email to its members made it pretty clear that they were not "tired of it". May have helped the CCJ that the Century Club Charities President is the immediate past president of the CCJ--and something tells me the rest of the Century Club board has probably been infiltrated with CCJ members as well.
