The MHSAA sucks

I think it's stupid that Madison Central, the undefeated #1 team in the state has to go to South Panola to play a team that has a worse record than them- and I will acknowledge that they are undefeated in the state of Mississippi.

And yes, I am a MC alum.

And yes, I thought it was stupid that South Panola had to go to Madison last year.

I just think that people should be rewarded for doing well if they have earned the home field advantage.

That is all, and anyone know any good placed to party at in Batesville? The casket company?

Nevermind- that's not all- Scott Samsel is quite possibly the worst coach in 6A. I hate to tell him, but Nick Saban is NOT going to hire a guy that decided to run the wildcat for two entire possessions against MC, thus completely pissing away two drives. The MC DC should send him a thank you note. They had 3rd and 12, after the wildcat had failed miserably and then ran it right up the middle, where it was promptly stuffed. If I was an Olive Branch fan, I would want his *** shipped down the river ASAP. I'm sure Damien Robinson appreciates him causing his stock to fall- hopefully Hevesey and Balis can work with him if we get him. What a nutjob that guy is.

We've only played damn near every North Half game on the road during The Streak. It's about time we get one at home. It just happened to be a year where the lower region got home field. And we're undefeated against in-state teams, just like MC. So technically, we have the same record.

Not that there's really any way to do a real comparison of the teams anyway, but both are undefeated in Mississippi and if anything South Panola beat common opponents Clinton and Olive Branch even worse than Madison Central did. The MHSAA playoff format does suck, but in this one case, it was just luck of the draw. The real injustice is when division champions have to go on the road to play 3rd place teams from the same division, not to mention having teams with records as bad as 2-8 in the playoffs to begin with.

The playoff format has put the Madison Central - South Panola game in Batesville pretty much every time (possibly every single time)it's ever been played in the playoffs. You've had at least your share of home games.

I agree with you in that too. Meridian finished 1st in the same district that Oak Grove finished 3rd in. I'm not just saying that because the wildcats lost tonight because Oak Grove deserved to win um sure. It just does not make much sense. Also to add I am a Meridian high alum.

I think it's ridiculous that South Panola had to play those games on the road. South Panola earned home field.

Simply alternating is silly. If MC had to play South Panola on the road last year, I would have not had a problem at all with that.

And MC is 1-0 against teams from Memphis, vs South Panola's 0-1. So, technically not the same. Although MUS was much better than the inner-city Memphis special that MC had, I'm sure. Although, MC's opponent from Memphis had gold shoes for the WR's.

I would do it based on overall record. MC is undefeated, and South Panola has one loss. I know it was a loss to a high quality opponent, but no one forced them to play MUS. Plus, my way makes the non-district games more relevant.

I would have said rankings, but the Jackson teams would have an unfair advantage since the Clarion-Ledger is in Jackson.

And actually, MC beat Olive Branch 54-23 vs South Panola's 34-6 (31 points vs 28 in favor of MC- I feel like a soccer fan). Both were home games.

MC beat Clinton 24-7 on the road, and South Panola beat them 35-0 at home, so I'll give South Panola the nod there.

And there was another common opponent- Starkville.

MC beat them 63-27, and South Panola beat them 51-7, which were home games for both. So, 36 points for MC and 43 for South Panola. Point for South Panola.

And then there's Northwest Rankin.

MC 49-14 in Flowood, and South Panola 54-10 in Batesville. 35 for MC and 44 for South Panola. Point for South Panola

Despite that, I still would do it based on overall record, but if they gave South Panola home field based on head to head point differential, I would be better with that than the current system that they use.

The #1 team in the coast district has to travel to Oak Grove next week to play South State.

Proctor wants to spread the gate money around - that is what this playoff venue system is all about.

West Jones was undefeated, no. 1 in their district, and beat Wayne County in the regular season.

Wayne County has lost three games, was no. 3 in the same district and got beat by WJ in the regular season.

So naturally, West Jones has to go to Wayne County tonight in the third round of the playoffs and gets beat. Maybe they woulda lost anyway, but my damn, that's just not fair.

Why? Spread around to who? Why not just have the two schools split 50/50, and then the MHSAA gets their cut?

Or, if they really want to be fair, do like the SEC does with the bowls and split the money amongst everyone.

MC/SP has an enormous crowd, then everyone from MC to Noxapater benefits.

I DARE your *** to go back through the threads to this time last year and earlier. The QB I unabashedly said we should sign was Tyler Russell. I ripped on Chris Garrett and said he'd never amount to anything as an SEC QB. I don't hate Tyler Russell. He didn't beat us. Lance Pogue beat us, and yes, I hate him. I know I've since insinuated he must not be very good if he couldn't manage to get onto the field ahead of Tyson Lee early in the season. Mostly, I was trolling to get morons like you - the "Tyler Russell is SAVIOR of MSU" Club - to respond. And sure enough, here your stupid *** is aGAIN. Hell, I never even mentioned Russell this time. I merely pointed out the fact that we played a bunch of road North Half games when we really should have been playing them at home. Having to go to OB every year got old in a hurry. I agree with Todd, there HAS to be a better way to determine home field in a situation like this rather than "lower region" and "higher region" every year. Points scored would be fine with me. Now, go cry to your boyfriend.

Perhaps it's because they don't trust the local folks to be honest with their gate reports? I really don't know.

Good Lord NO! Then, instead of actually playing somebody worth a damn, you end up with even more ugly blowouts for the big boys in early season games and MC plays enough pussies as it is due to their district.

and refs are paid. There is no fair way to do home field. The higher seeded teams are always going to argue about being at home, but honestly this is the best way to decide it. If you did this by point diff. I could imagine some of the scores that would be put up. To be fair you could flip a coin for teams that have the same seed and have had the same no. of playoff home games. Realistically being the higher seed only helps you in the first round giving you a home game vs. a weaker opponent.

Region 2-6A is historically a vast black hole of suckitude. Not to mention that you can't compare overall records from different parts of the state because the teams usually don't have any opponents in common.

But I've got to admit that the situation was the exact opposite last year. Wayne County was the undefeated district champ and West Jones finished 3rd, yet the playoff game was at West Jones and West Jones won. Those two schools have played in the playoffs 4 times now and the winner of the regular season game is only 1-3 in the playoff game. It's really a shame the MHSAA lets so many teams in the playoffs and forces division rivals to match up so early in the playoffs. You should only have to play a division team in the state title game (or at least in the semifinals).

to Madison LAST FREAKING YEAR. Fans need to realize that home field advantage is not that big of a deal in high school football. If anything, the visiting team has an advantage provided they are aclimated to the road trip (which again, for good 5A teams in Mississippi, is not a big deal). There are fewer distractions for the visiting team since I guarantee Madison will be out of school at noon, eating somewhere in Batesville by 2:30, and chilling in the gym at South Panola by 4. Every year somebody bitches about their team having to travel. Reality is, its not changing. You have to win where the game is played no matter what. If South Panola wins the state championship, there will not be a disclaimer on the trophy, just like if Madison wins it, it won't say "6A state champions (And they had to go on the road for North Half.)"

Hall >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lance Crxxms. I'm just not totally convinced the talent is going to be that close. We're pretty much loaded except at QB. It'll be interesting to see. Frankly, if it means we can rid ourselves of Pogue, I hope you do pull off the upset.

I'm simply a MS HS football fan and go to watch key games everytime I can........I've seen both teams play and IMO, MC has as much talent as USP.........I guess that could be debated but is strictly my unadultered opinion........However, we both agree that Hall is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>than Pogue.......Of course, Hall may very well be the best damn coach in MS HS football......</p>
