Thanks for that bit of history concerning John Two Guns White Calf. The name is unusual and somewhat descriptive, so my initial thought was that it might be a lead in to a joke alone the lines of the old "Two dogs phucking" joke. But Google revealed that Two Guns White Calf was, in fact, a Blackfoot chief, and in fact the apparent last of the Blackfoot chiefs.
I would have no problem restoring the logo, but you have to admit that the name "Redskins" is somewhat pejorative. I have much less issue with
"Indians" or "Braves" than I do with Redskins. I also have no issue with "Squaw Valley," the Lake Tahoe ski resort recently renamed "Palisades Tahoe." But this wasn't my call.
I think FSU did it the right way. They asked the Seminole nation for their take on the FSU mascot name and logo, and the Seminoles did not object to it. If the Seminoles had no issue, it made it a little tougher for anyone else to claim that the use of their name and logo was somehow disrespectful. Note that, unlike "Redskins," the term "Seminoles" has no obvious pejorative connotation.
