Goes to Glenvar fans. Particularly the train horn guy. Look Giles has had the horn for years. It's been a part of the Spartan faithful before 1996. It's very obvious that Glenvar just wants to be so annoying it's truly pathetic. Extremely classless to take another teams tradition and take it to the extreme of it all. Just pathetic. Glenvar train horn guy should feel like an idiot

When you take away from the kids just for the sole purpose of annoying opposing fans that's very classless imo

Richlands fans take cowbells, jugs full of rocks, bottles of beads, horns, clappers, anything to make noise. That's part of it. If you make a lot of noise, it messes up the other teams. That's sports. Every fan base sets out to get in the head of the other team.

That's not classless. That's sports.

QUOTE="Hampton Roads 6, post: 222784, member: 580"]I recall a glevvar at Giles game when Glenvar fans had jugs with gravel. Very annoying.[/QUOTE]

Big Hokie and Hampton Roads..I've said for years that Giles is a class act on and off the field, even with that annoying train whistle. .It's not something I would have done, but I understand the frustration of Glenvar fans. Glenvar fans have had to endure that obnoxious noise directed at them for years both at Giles and at Glenvar. It's definitely an advantage and sometimes has been used to disrupt our cadence during drives late in the game. ( last year's playoff) Glenvar is the most classless???....maybe a little self reflection on both sides is in order.

When they blow their horn during a huddle so the boys cant hear their play That's not during certain plays that relate to their game that's what's classless. And if you pay attention they only do it when in fear of losing. Bring your horn, blow your horn But have the respect to blow it when you get a down or when you get a touchdown. But it's all good. I mean you know the saying..... What's good for the goose...

Yeah I thought I might hear that saying. Kinda figured your that kind of person. Very elementary. Just pitiful you can't find your own tradition that you have to heckle someone else's

I don't have any experience with either team's traditions, but I met a few Glenvar folks in a grocery store down at Salem a couple of years ago while supporting Essex and the NND. They were great, cool people (as are most fans) and were very excited about their recent successes.

If Giles had won the game, this would not even be an issue.

Basically sounds like Glenvar doesn't have anyone smart enough to come up with their own home field traditions, so they just stole Giles idea.......we got a guy in Gretna that can cut the hose if you need it. Just sayin....

Not heckling and not taking anyone else's tradition. Just don't get mad when your handed a dose of what you try to dish out. Tradition is one thing but when YOU purpousfully blow your horn during ANY opponents huddle (not just our games) you shouldn't be surprised to finally have someone hand it back to you. Get over yourself it's a high school football game and regardless of the horns last night it was a great game and you need to stop whining.

Not "stealing" a tradition. Just showing them how "classless" they are when boys are huddled and under center. Good luck getting to the hose but again it's only an issue with Giles fans cause they lost last night. And they don't only do it at their "home field" they travel with it so if you can't take it don't dish it.

This thread is hilarious!!!! First dude comes on complaining about getting a dose of his own medicine. then the TRAIN HORN GUY from GLENVAR shows up on here. ROFL LOLOLOLOLololol

Keep that name on here too, i think i will chuckle every time i read your post.

Look, I have been complaining about that horn since 2013 playoffs when Appomattox came to Giles. They sounded that horn just at the TRAIN HORN GUY from GLENVAR stated. When a guy is under snap and when they are in huddle. they also used it more when appomattox had them on their heels. This is poor sportsmanship as a fan and classless. So where do you get off coming at THG from Glenvar when they do the same classless act yall do? What a joke! VHSL needs to look into it.

Appomattox bought a train horn after the Giles game to hype crowd and we have a canon too. Both are only used after a score and they are both ON THE FIELD manned by someone that gets in game free. Its not brought by a fan that needs a battery or a air compressor to blow (which should be banned). I mean, how are yall sneaking that in? I have no issues with blowing the horn, I actually like it, but to blow it when high school players are under snap, calling cadence, or in huddle is absurd. Where are horns allowed in NCAA games, NFL games???

You know what would top off this thread, if TRAIN HORN GUY from GILES eventually shows up. ROFL.....Im done for the day.

So my thoughts Giles, GET OVER IT and show some respect with the horn. Stop being a cry baby and learn how to beat Glenvar. 4 times in a row and this is all you want to talk about is "Oh, they blowing their horn too, look at them, they need to stop" boo hoo hoo.

But if you notice, the original poster has ZERO issue with it being used to mess with other teams, only when its used versus Giles. And then tries to disguise it as "tradition"! Don't see any other Spartan fans touching thus thread so only one crybaby has an issue. Of course he has a couple of Gretna fans on here defending him smh!!!

Actually, stealing the horn idea is not what the original poster was complaining about. At Giles the P.A. announcer calls out either the starting offensive or defensive line up for each team, by name, number and position. After already having read the Glenvar line-up, The Giles offensive starting line-up was being called out as they meet near mid-field, each entering as their name, number, and position are called. it gives the crowd a chance to cheer these guys one by one, as they are introduced. mid way through Giles starting line-up introductions, copy cat horn guy starts blowing their horn non-stop over the P.A. announcer trying to give these guys their intro. Say what you want about the Giles horn, but our horn guy would never blow it at a time like that. EVER!

It was blown at that time because OUR boys were entering the field. Had nothing to do with Giles' boys or what was being announced. Get over it.

Was I not at Giles just about 3 weeks back where they blew that annoying horn every chance they could get. During key situations, when the opposing team had a big 3rd down coming up.

Pot.... meet Kettle...

Advocate is absolutely correct. The Horn at Giles is blown whenever the heck they want to blow it, it's absurd. Blowing it when the opposing team has the ball is unsportsmanlike. Complaining about Glenvar blowing it when their team is running onto the field is simply ridiculous.

Train Horn Guy is my new hero also..... Wait, I might get accused of stealing someone elses idea.

My take is Glenvar has just wanted to be Giles for years. That has even came from the head coach. I'm not surprised another school has taken Giles tradition. When u have a school that has a tradition like Giles many others want to follow suit. That's three schools in the last three years now that has a train horn. Appomattox, Christiansburg, and Glenvar. I'm kinda flattered really that everyone wants to be Giles. I mean hell, Glenvar state picture on thier one rock is on Giles field.
As far as the game, Giles deserved to lose. Stuff Glenvar three time in 4th quarter and get ball in own territory and do nothing with it. Fact is Giles is just not very good right now. The line is awful, kids not playing with discipline on defense and youth is showing because no leaders are stepping up. I'm still proud of this team because we took a huge hit losing our stud fullback and linebacker and unlike some fans I realize this a young team. We have almost everyone back next year. As far as Glenvar, they are better with thier suspended kids back but thier offense is nothing impressive. I don't see either team making past second round of playoffs and it's just my opinion. As far as the train horn Giles fans, don't be offended by it. Be flattered so many schools and fan bases want to be what we have been for years.

Great googaly moogaly! There's so much going with this thread, where do I begin? I'm a Giles fan and graduate. We have great fans and so does Glenvar. Neither are classless. We have beaten them for years and now they have the upper hand. Congratulations go to them and their coach. This has become a great rivalry. We'll get them again, hopefully in this year's playoffs.

Having said that, I have never actually liked the train horn. I'm actually surprised that the officials have allowed it to continue. If it was only used to signal scores, like the cannons, sirens, and black powder guns that other schools have, I would have absolutely no problem. We DO use it at inappropriate times and frankly, it's obnoxious. I'm not opposed to noisemakers. I come away from every Giles game a bit hoarser. Cowbells, rocks in jugs are good as well. Air horns just seem to cross a line, in my opinion. Spartan nation, can we please just yell a little louder and save the train horn for when we score?

I guarantee this! WRITE IT DOWN, SAVE THIS POST, QUOTE ME "That horn will not be used in Appomattox if we ever faced each other at Appo"
I know our administration well enough that they will sniff out THE TRAIN HORN GUY from GILES. He will be watching game from fence line if he decided to keep blowing it. They would warn him first, but I know they wouldn't let it continue.

All schools need to take this approach. Administrators take note!!

I totally agree with you obguthr. Every point in your post is right on. I am also surprised the VHSL has let it go but then again the VHSL is good at making rules but feckless in enforcement. I love the noise that is made from the Giles or Glenvar crowd roaring that comes before or after a big play. The train whistle as it has been used over the years, is a cheap substitute, a bad tradition, and an unfavorable advantage when used outside of players entering the field or right after a team scores. Totally appropriate in those two situations only. Maybe enough folks at Giles can see that now that they have experienced it from the other side and we can thank the trainhornguy for that.
