The south does suck for the 8 weeks spread throughout January and February where it’s cold. Not enough really cold weather to develop a lot of good cold weather options. People also don’t really invest in cold weather gear since those cold snaps are usually less than a week at a time before getting some relief.

The globe is divided into time zones and is based off Greenwich Mean Time. International travel, global financial markets, logistics, etc. all run off this mutually agreed concept.

DST should be year round. People want some daylight after work to do other things, walking, golf, tennis, yardwork, gardening etc. When it's dark you're limited and less motivated. There is no point for central time anymore. I thought most states have already voted for this, it's up to the Federal Government to vote to eliminate the time change.
If we move to permanent DST we are literally changing our time off of global time zones.

Just over 50 countries observe DST so almost half the world changes off each other. Not to mention Southern hemisphere countries go the opposite way from September to March.
You do realize that other countries have done the same thing, right? Some have switched back and forth while others have stayed the same.
Wrong. The dumbest, most self-absorbed Time Zones are the ones that are off by a half hour, like Newfoundland and India.
That said, I think America should just join that trend and move our clocks ahead by 30 minutes.
Or......what if we just moved the whole country to the same time and let the locals decide what time to do things? 9 to 5 may be a standard workday on the East coast, but out West it's 12 to 8. Prime time TV on the West Coast starts at 10 pm. Kinda messes up things like Midnight Mass, but people who need midnight and 12AM to coincide can figure something out.
Yes, I simplified the argument for brevity. Afghanistan is off 30 minutes too. My point remains our rationale is stupid shallow crap like day care and golf.
