but i think it is funny because they are so damn irrelevant as compared to what they used to be. the way they were greeted on your campus after the riots of 62 is actually a testament to the way MS has changed over the last few decades.

it is also funny because you guys are so sensitive about it. you should be telling everyone that the klan showed up and you guys did everything short of whipping their asses while there. instead you guys are being a bunch of pussies about it.

You think Rebel-fan will go after these KKK guys with the same vehemance they went after, say, TigerDog? Of course not.
Or, that jtbowtie guy. He got death threats, right? Smacked around a little? For what, an internet video saying their football team sucked?

My rant on the situation and then I'll shut up -

At first I started to feel bad for them in that there was really nothing they could do about this situation. Sure, the klan has a right to peacefully organize (as a side note, its complete horseshit that a, for lack of a better word, terrorist organization that has spent the better part of a century torturing people not like them and basing their existence on removing the rights of others can put up such a fuss about their own free speech rights). But, shouldn't Ole Miss have a right to protect their image? Easily a stuck between a rock and a hard place situation.

Then I started thinking about their image and I realized the comedy of the situation. They bring this **** upon themselves and deserve every bit of negative press that goes with it. It pisses me off that their crap has to be associated with the state that I grew up in. Here we have the the klan on the campus of the University of Mississippi, where sports teams are affectionately known as the Ole Miss Rebels. I'll be clear, I don't think that everyone (or anywhere near a majority for that matter) that supports Ole Miss is ignorant and/or racist. But, when your name is the Ole Miss Rebels and nearly every one of your traditions is based on the old south and the confederacy, you are going to have a hard 17-ing time convincing people to take you seriously when a racism or ignorance come into play.

The issue really transcends the klan appearance from yesterday. As long as they continue on with the name Ole Miss and the mascot Rebels, they will have to accept the negative perception that comes along with it. Yes, they have every right to call themselves as they want and many would argue that the traditions/names embraced are innocent in nature and mean no harm. But, they have to accept the reality that they will continue to be labeled racists and ignorant if they hold onto them. Whether or not that's fair is irrelevant. That's reality.

Unfortunately, that reality is not retained within the campus of Ole Miss. That labeling carries over into the rest of state of Mississippi (including MSU) and even the South. I'm sure most of you, like me, get frustrated with being labeled as ignorant or racist simply by being a "southerner". Whether it's fair or not, it's a very real stereotype. Well, that labeling is never going away as long as people keep doing stupid ignorant **** like calling themselves the Ole Miss Rebels and stubbornly holding on to suspect traditions.

Bottom line, I feel no compassion for them when crap like this happens. They bring it upon themselves by continuing to embrace the names and traditions rooted in a racist past. You can't hold onto those old traditions and then cry when somebody challenges you as a racist. It doesn't work that way. Out of respect of their fellow Mississippians, they need to clean up their image. It brings the rest of us lowly MSU 'hicks down.

Am I happy with my season? Ask me in January, but when it's all said and done, we'll likely be playing in a new year's day bowl.

2 years ago we were 0-8 in SEC play. Yes, I am happy. I didn't pick us to win the national title, and we beat LSU at home and pounded Tennessee. You'd kill for this kind of season.

No, but if there is going to be a clan rally in Mississippi and I can't stop it then I would prefer for it to be on Ole Miss' campus on one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the year for them.

And that area t'ain't Nutt's forte in the first place.
