got me thinking. I'll use a different term to appease the Vogons. What is the National Park Service unit that you haven't been to that you'd most like to go to? I have a bunch but #1 on my list would have to be Valley Forge. I had an ancestor that was there.

What a coincidence. I had an ancestor that was there as well. My grandmother visited there in the early 1980's. She said it was cold when she went, so that's the same thing... and don't try to convince me it's not!

Glacier, Denali, Shenandoah, Coast of Maine. I know it’s not a national park, but i would enjoy that drive tremendously

Was this thread started so you could humblebrag about what parks you’ve been to?
No, I was curious where other people would like to go. I haven’t been to many of the big parks at all. Nor many others outside of the Civil war ones.

I've been to Yosemite twice and would love to go again. It's absolutely spectacular. Pictures don't do it justice. I would highly recommend.
What’s the best place to stay there? From what I have read it’s almost impossible to stay in the park.

The first time I went was with a large group (bachelor party/trip) and we had a big cabin rented out that slept 15-20 people. The second time I went with just a couple guys we took tents and camped. We didn’t have spots reserved, but just asked some people with campers if we could just use their spot’s tent pads and they were gracious enough to allow it.

I went a few months ago and stayed in Camp 4, right in the middle of the park. If you watch it closely, sites will usually open up there a few days before as people do last minute cancelations. I was able to grab a spot just a couple days in advance by checking every hour or so.

I could do that, but camping to the wife is a bad hotel. 😜 We camped once, in a place where it was the only option.

Next one up is the Dry Tortugas. We're trying to get a camping slot there but its almost impossible. May have to settle for a day trip.
The OP got me thinking when he mentioned Valley Forge. With the 250th anniversary coming up next year, National Parks tied to the Revolutionary War just got a lot more interesting. I didn't have anyone at Valley Forge that I know of but I did at Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse.

I’ve been looking at some photography sites today. I’ve been to Yellowstone, one of the few big parks I’ve been to, but I’ve never been in the winter. That might be my real top choice. I‘ve checked into going to Yellowstone in the winter, Valley Forge would be MUCH easier to do, even in the winter.

Glacier National Park

Banff National Park
The “Going to the sun road” in Glacier is quite a drive. Magnificent, but not for the feint of heart. The “Bear tooth highway” in Montana and Wyoming east of Yellowstone is also an outstanding drive, but again, not for the feint of heart.

If you can plan a ways out, there are several places to stay in the park. I get emails from Yellowstone all the time regarding lodging and things going on in the park. I have been to Yellowstone probably 15 times and I recommend the first two weeks of September to visit. The summers are way too crowded with idiots galore. In September the elk are bugling, the trout are biting, and most of the idiots have gone home. Also spend 1 day in the Tetons if you can. Beautiful scenery everywhere. Jackson Hole is neat with a number of excellent restaurants, but it is an expensive place to visit. If you plan it right you can be there in time to spend a couple of days helping me pack out my elk. Seriously, if you decide to go, reach out to me and I will be glad to share information on anything I can help with. If you love the outdoors, Northwest Wyoming will touch your soul and change you forever.
