Of course I want the truth but Trump and his cronies are not trying to get at the truth, they are trying to steal an election. To do so, they have interfered with recounts, threatened the poll workers and now are going to court with ridiculous theory after ridiculous theory. I also wonder who is paying for this. I suspect Trump is not and that the legal fees of these charlatans he has hired are coming out of tax dollars. The problem with coming up with lies and then falling back on just looking for the truth is that it gets in the way of doing actual work. I mean, really, we are in the middle of a pandemic spike and where is the President? Certainly not doing anything to help. Also if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth. Right now 70% of Republicans believe the election was stolen. Do you think they will be convinced otherwise when this preposterous conspiracy theory is laughed out of court? I would venture to say that they will not which will make it hard for the person who was actually elected president to govern. And right now, we need a functioning government.
The more I've thought and read, I actually think this is just one big cash grab on the way out.
The donations the campaign has been soliciting, isn't actually all going to legal fees, as up to 75 percent is going to the Trump Super PAC, Save America. The use of those funds are completely up to the Trump's campaign.
I have read numerous reports that Giuliani had sought $20,000 a day to handle this mess. That leads me to believe that the other three figures are probably getting no less than K a day. If you can stretch that out from election day through inauguration day that's about 1.4 for Rudy and at 350 for the others. Then you throw the opportunities that will come to fleece the rubes afterward, this is potentially very lucrative for Giuliani and company.
As for Trump, with the donor operation set up the way it is, one would have to assume he's taking the bulk of that. Super PACs such as Save America are typically used for campaign expenses like travel, ads, etc. Trump isn't advertising and he's traveling on tax dollars (when he actually leaves the White House) so there's no use for the money there.
It seems highly possible that this whole circus is nothing more than a heartbroken loser trying to boost his ego, to sabotage his successor and to monetize his presidency one last time before he leaves office.
