There are certain fundamental differences between the two scenarios. Obama was a two-term president who could not run again. And when he left, he did so relatively quietly, even as he watched his legacy being unraveled by a president who thought white supremacy was just grand and who benefitted from it by putting its message on hats. Trump can run again and he is unable and/or unwilling to sit quietly and let Biden run the country. He has continued to keep his grip on the Republican Party. That the House voted to strip Cheney of her position because she had the temerity to point out that 1) he had lost the election and 2) he had encouraged insurrection shows the degree of control. He and his toadies are still perpetuating the big lie that he actually won the election -- a lie that is a direct assault on our democracy. So, yes, we still need to pay attention to this poor excuse for a human being, because if we look away, we leave him unhindered to continue to damage our nation.
