You've all seen this video. But you may have glossed over the 1:40 mark.

This game comes from an era in which college football didn't tolerate noise too well. At 1:40, the referee refuses to penalize Alabama for delay of game because of crowd noise from MSU. Trust me, this isn't a typical Alabama ***-kissing from the zebras. This stuff was typical back then. Referees took action against crowd noise.

They would refuse to assess delays of game. They could also stop the game druing pre-snap and ask the crowd to be quiet. And I'm just about certain they also could call unsportsmanlike conduct penalties due to crowd noise.

Folks, this is the era in which the SEC banned cowbells.

Clearly, college football has grown up since then. No referee or administrator gives first or second thought towards taking any on-field action due to crowd noise. Yet, we've still got this cowbell relic on the SEC rule book.

Today, the NCAA is ok with the cowbell and the SEC should be also.

We'll take our lumps this year over cowbells. They'll hit us in the wallet as we all agreed to. But starting right now our AD needs to fight a tactful war over the existence of this rule.

Fortunately, the national media as well as bowl game sponsors love the cowbell. I hope Scott leverages this and everything else he can dream up to pressure the SEC into uncuffing the cowbell.

Flab, you've hit the nail on the head and summed up what I've been screaming for several years to friends and anyone who would listen. Most of the threads on here are barking up the wrong tree and are futile. You're exactly right: if the NCAA doesn't care, then why in the world should the SEC? Ralph "Shug" Jordan is one reason and our sudden relevance on the football field is the other, and perhaps the biggest right now.

It may be just Florida and/or Bama that opposed the bells the loudest b/c of last year's games. And Slive has said he has no problem with the bells. Well it's high time that Stricklin and Co. stand up to the big boys and not take no for an answer, including any pansy compromise.

DING. DONG. DAMMIT!

1) I agree. After the SEC gets tougher on cowbells, the AD needs to do everything they can do tactfully fight it. I don't think it's going to result in a win for us, but the fans deserve the fight.

2) Jack. Legend.
