When I see that an NFL franchise is worth this kind of money because of it's income producing potential for the owner it makes it even more absurd to me that college football fans are having to pay their players themselves........with no retun on their money. I know the income from a college football program is not in any way comparable to that of an NFL team but there's still just something wrong with this picture.

I agree with your premise. There should be more internal money spent on players. The idea that it takes a team of squeegee men at college programs going out and trying to clean as many windshields as they can to panhandle for additional funds is off-putting to me. However the NFL with PSLs and ticket prices is not exactly giving their fans any sort of discount. At least it is a more direct you pay me this to get that.

I will say our athletic department is better than it used to be. There was a time at the end of Templeton when I hated to visit campus. Larry would only talk to the people with deep pockets but the others were obligated to hit you up for spare change. People I knew from my days there would apologize and say "I am sorry but I have to ask...". It was not a good look. The past decade or two that has stopped and you are made to feel welcomed. It is a much softer approach.

I'm not sure it is worth this kind of money because of its income producing potential. Supposedly Dallas is the most profitable franchise and has around $630M of operating income. Not sure a multiple of operating income is a good valuation metric for a sports franchise, but if you put a high multiple on it, you're getting to $4B.

I think it's worth so much money because it's a prestigious thing to own and a relatively safe thing to own. If they pay $15B, it will be a terrible return unless and until they sell it.

Just read a Forbes article from August stating the Cowboys ae now worth 10 billion. So are the Lakers, and Celtics were sold recently for over 6 billion

The day you hear an entire NFL franchise was sold, in whole, not part, will be a new day. I don't think we will live to see it and it will probably be the Saudis.

Saints will likely have a new owner fairly soon. Gayle is 80 and has no heirs, and she has it in her will for team president Dennis Lauscha to sell them and Pelicans to new ownership group based in NOLA. Proceeds will go to what amounts to a sovereign wealth fund for the city.

Means the Saints will likely be first Saudi owned team, unfortunately and ironically.

Wow. That will be interesting to see if a Muslim group buys an NBA team.
