sucks a fat schlong. And the rest of the NL is an embarassment, except L.A. Unless the Dodgers win the pennant, I'm skipping the world series this year.

my Giants. Definitely the surprise of the season so far. At 11 games over now and at .563, they have the 2nd best record in the NL and would lead or be tied in the AL Central and West. Damn Dodgers.

3 of the last 5 NL appearances in the World Series, with one of the last 3 World Series Champions. The division has the best player in our lifetime (Pujols), one of the top 3 winningest managers of all time, and some good young talent, Rasmus (probably rookie of the year), Fielder, Braun, Soto, Votto, Bruce, Cueto, McCutchen, Alvarez (someday soon). The records aren't that great, but it's definitely an exciting division with some exciting players.

you to dismiss other arguments with no basis for why your dismissing. I guess it's alot easier to be a smartass than to actual make an argument.

smartass. I was only replying to your post initially when I disagreed.. My second post was for the other two who would rather type responses with no argument rather than give some type of valid response.

I don't think the NL Central is some sort of murderer's row, but it's no joke - I would say it's pretty average. The AL East, AL West, and (possibility) the NL West are better right now, but the AL Central and NL East are clearly sub-par relative to the Central.

but an interesting statistic on The Dodgers is they are 55-32 for the season, but 30-12 within their division. They are 4-5 versus the Central, and were 9-9 in interleague play. So really, their record comes from playing and winningsso many games within their own division.

off the top of my head...the NL West has the best record against opponents outside of their division, currently. Also, (in the past 10 years) the NL East has the most WS appearances and titles. Furthermore, the NL West has the best W% in NLCS. I just thought it was pretty in tents to say that Pujols is the best player of "our" generation. He's pretty damn good and could very well be the best hitter ever, when all is said and done. It's just a little premature to say that at this point.</p>

I stand behind my comment. However, that's not on the homerism level of me saying State will go 8-4 in football, or something like that. So my Pujols statement is reasonable, as far as I'm concerned.
And yes, I do watch all of The Cardinal games, and therefore see the NL Central play alot. So, I also stand behind the opinion that there is alot of good young talent in the league that is fun to watch. Bottom line, just because you root for a team doesn't automatically make you a homer if you make positive comments that are reasonable, which I did.

was it the Pujols comment, the fact that I watch all the Cardinal games, or the picture of the arch in my signature?

I think the Cardinals and Cubs are pretty damn good.

As a Card fan , I am pretty satisfied that they came into today 7 games over .500 considering the injuries they have had.

The staff Ace (Carpenter) missed over a month and so did last years winningest pitcher (Loshe). Troy Glaus who hit 27 HRs and drove in 99 runs last year has yet to take a swing.

With Carpenter and Loshe both already back and Glaus due back at the end of July , I am betting the Cards will have a better second half.

I am sure the Cubs have dealt with some injuries too , but I will let a Cub fan do the homework on that.

Aramis Ramirez, Geovany Soto, Ryan Dempster, Rich Harden and Carlos Zambrano have all missed time on the DL. That's just the star players. And they are still hanging around. Going into the game tonight they are 2 and a half games out of first.

I would have to say that Albert Pujols is the best player I have ever seen in person. You can call me a homer, but I would say that if he played for the Cubs. And I've seen some people like A-Rod, McGwire, Ozzie, Nolan Ryan, Ichiro, Palmeiro, Clark in the Big Leagues, Strawberry, Edgar Martinez, and etc.

Pujols is the first guy in Big League history to have at least 30 home runs, 100 RBI's, and hit .300 in his first eight seasons, and he's only 13 RBI's away from his ninth. The record for seasons like that is 12 held by some guy name Babe Ruth. And he didn't start his career like that- OK, he was pitcher, but still he hit 29 in 1919, his last year with the Red Sox.

He is also 29, and he has 351 home runs. He's on pace hit 400 by the time he is 30, which is over halfway to Barry Bonds, and 500 by the time he is 32, and could conceivably have 700 by the time he is 36 if he can stay at this pace.

To me, what makes him so great is the fact that yes, he's a tremendous offensive force, but he's also a Gold Glove caliber first baseman, and he's also becoming a very good baserunner, even though he is not all that fast. He has 10 stolen bases at this time.

I saw him playing against the Braves in Atlanta a couple of years ago, and he essentially won the game for the Cardinals. There aren't very many Big Leaguers you can say that about.

I do agree that it's a little bit premature to annoint him as the greatest, but as long as he stays healthy, he has a really legit shot at it. I just hope he doesn't get caught using steroids or something like that.

I do think that the Dodgers have the best team, but I wouldn't exactly call the Central a totally horrible division. You could certianly make a good case that the NL East is worse.

The Phillies are pretty good, but their record is not much better than the Cardinals. The Marlins are in second place and they would barely be in third place ahead of the Cubs in the Central. The Braves would be fighting for fourth place and Mets have a record that is only better than the Pirates in the Central. Then you have the Nationals, and they're worse than the Pirates.

The Pirates also have better records than the Diamondbacks and Padres, and the only teams in the NL West that would be ahead of the Cardinals right now would be the Dodgers and Giants, so I would say the West is a little top heavy, but better than the Central and the East. The Rockies have also played really well since they fired Clint Hurdle.

The best in baseball has to be the AL East. Only the Dodgers have a better record than the Red Sox, and then the Yankees are only two games back of them. The Rays are in third place and are eight games over .500, and the Blue Jays are only one game under .500 and are buried in fourth place. The Orioles are the worst team, but that's it.

the greatest player of my lifetime. I'm having trouble coming up with someone over the last 40 years I would put in his category. I guess Hank Aaron would be a worthy argument.

with Aaron is that they're both consistently consistent.

Ruth basically set his record for home runs over 16-17 seasons, with a high of 60.

Aaron set his record for home runs over 22-23 seasons with a high of 44.

Also, I didn't know Pujols was the Terminator.

As good as I think Pujols is, I wouldn't put him in Ruth, Mantle, or DiMaggio's category, yet.

Might be a mute point. Or maybe a moo point.

They've won 1 of the last 3 World Series? So? And that was 3 years ago. They've won 0 of the last 2.

Before 2006, the last NL Central team to win the WS was in 1990. So can we say they've won 1 of the last 19 World Series?

And since the Cards in 2004, the 1990 Reds were the last current NL Central team to even make the WS. It has been a mediocre division since it was created. Even the 2006 Cardinals only won 83 games, so lets not get carried away.

mid-market teams at best. I guess this is why the division tends to be mediocre. St. Louis will probably lose Pujols in 2012, Houston couldn't hold on to Beltran, Sabbathia was a second half rental, Pitsburgh will never keep any good players, nor will the Reds. That's the biggest problem. Money. But for now, there are some good young players in the division.

100+ games the two years before that.

It's apples and oranges to say that a division is strong or weak solely based on who made the World Series. How many wild card teams have made it to the World Series?

Baseball is the one sport where if you can get into the postseason, really anyone can win it all. There's really not going to be much difference between the best team in the postseason and the wild card teams.

There is quite a bit of money tied up in former/retired players that will be coming off the books next year as well as Glaus's contract.

I have never understood the hate for the yankees. I attribute it to the fact that they have won so many WS titles, and therefor people hate them. Some people say it's because they "ruin the game" by spending so much money. The thing i don't get about this is that the people that say this would probably have no problem with their team doing that (if they could afford to). It really is just a case of sour grapes. Don't hate on the yankees because your bunk *** team doesn't have any support (can't make enough money to afford to be the best). Overall, the yankees are the greatest MLB franchinse ever and have supported that by their success on the field over time. Yankee fans demand and expect the best. Because of this, they are hated...makes no sense.</p>

in the World Series, The Yankees have won 6 titles (In 45 seasons), The Cardinals have won 4. So the Yankees have not been as dominant as it seems. Ruth, DiMaggio and Mantle brought alot of those championships. Still Championships nonetheless, but still not dominating over almost half a century. In that same time frame the A's have 4, The Dodgers (in LA) have 4, Cincinnati and Baltimore have 3.

By the way, The Cubs have 0 in that time span.

For the reasons Todd stated mostly. He's done things no player has done offensively. He's a top 5 1B defensively in the game. And he has speed enough to swipe bags. He runs everything out. He goes hard every play. He is possibly the most fan friendly player in the MLB although that doesnt say anything about his playing ability. EVERYONE loves the guy
