Speculating reporters that make money off of trying to scoop a story and you people spreading speculation on a message board. Stand back from the computer, take a deep breath and think about it a bit.

Dan has been 100% Dawg since he took the job here. He's worked hard on building a foundation and stresses that this is a school that is on the rise. Dan set out to build a program. He's on a mission and I think he is the type person that will finish the mission. Dan will stick with MSU and get us to Atlanta for an SEC championship. After that, it's up in the air.

Yes, there are some "high profile" jobs coming open right now but why would he leave? He's got MSU in as much positive press as any of these other schools. He's got people talking about us competing in the National Championship game. He's got us going to a New Year's day bowl. He has this program headed in the right direction. The schools that are looking for a head coach are looking because they are headed in the wrong direction. Why would he jump from a ship that's headed to port for one that's out to sea taking on water? Why would he want to take a step backwards in building a program? I think Dan is as close to having a championship team here at MSU as he would be if he went to UF or Miami. I don't see him making the jump now.

He could leave now and take a job at one of these schools, inherit their problems and take what money they offer after having a 5-7 year and an 8-4 year. Or he could invest a couple more years at MSU, take us to the SEC Championship and show that he can truly build a program. After he does that, then he can go write his own ticket anywhere he want's to go. I don't think Dan will give up what he's worked hard for over the last two years yet.

That's my opinion. Feel free to fire away with yours.

and ive heard he hopes to work out a new contract.

ineverheardhim say "I'm not leaving MSU"

I agree that he wants to take us to a national championship, but I believe that, ultimately, he wants to get himself to a national championship.

Because of that, I dontblame him for taking the HC job at Florida.

I was a Bulldog before he got here, and I'll be a Bulldog long after he's gone...

that he would be interested in MSU if they wanted to interview him. He did not beat around the bush or say he was staying in Florida. Granted he is a head coach now, but I think Dan is a pretty stand-up guy and I have hope he will be with us next year. I still haven't heard anything out of Dan's mouth that makes me think he is in a huge hurry to land in G'ville.

Also isn't Dan and Urban relatively chummy? Is Dan comfortable going to go to the program Urban is given credit for building and trying to usurp Urban's status? Wouldnt' that be alittel awkward for a guy you spend so much of your coaching career working with?

Not saying what Dan will do, but you say he could do good here and write his own ticket.

There is no ticket better than Florida. That ticket is Willy Wonka Gold.

I don't think Florida is any golden ticket. They are on a high because they won a few national championships a few years ago...so what. They haven't won any in the last few years. I think Mississippi State has as good a chance of going to a National Championship game as Florida has. I don't see their ticket as being any more golden than ours.

Florida is a Top 5 job easy! Maybe the best in the country, and it has nothing to do with MSU. There are lots of desirable jobs in the SEC and Florida is right there with Bama and LSU.

The only thing we have over Fla is the smaller fan base with less pressure to win. We are happy with 10 - 2 or 8 -4, etc... At Fla National Champ is goal every year and if they don't get it there is upheaval.

Of course, if Dan come to SixPack and reads this blog, he will have tremendous pressure.

Finally, a sensible post.

Would you rather make $2 million per year (or 1.2 as it were, seems that Dan will be close to two pretty soon) at Mississippi State, where you can win 7-8 games per year and be a herov for 10 years, or make $4 million per year at Florida where you go 5-7 in years 2-4 you'll be fired?

Seems to me Dan's got it pretty good in Starkville. He looks like he's having the best time of his life. He goes out of his way to reassure everyone how much he loves Mississippi. He can see that his old buddy (and only 46 years old by the way) is about to have a coronary on the daily due to pressure a Florida, so why go take it when you're already make millions anyway?

Just my take.

Yes, UF has a strong tradition and has had several championships. However, I don't see riding someone elses name and fame as being a golden ticket. You have to live up to their hype. Here, he can make his own hype and his own name. I think that's golden!
